Curtis Stinson

Just a quick update on former Cyclone Curtis Stinson. He started all 51 games for the Energy last year at PG.

Curtis is attending a mini-camp in LA in front of NBA scouts this weekend. Decent list of attendees....all of whom played in D-League last year.

Other "names" at the mini-camp:

PG Russell Robinson - Reno (Kansas)
SG Denham Brown - Iowa (UConn)
SF Brent Petway - Idaho (Michigan)
SF Bobby Jones - Sioux Falls (Washington)

Curtis showed a lot of potential at PG this year, getting some decent looks here and overseas.

He still has a ways to go...but he got better late in the season.

Anyone who can average 16ppg 7rpg and 8.5apg will get a look. I think we all agree that if he was a 38% 3pt shooter he would be in the NBA today.

This is very true. His numbers are pretty impressive from the PG position. Does he have the foot speed and quicks to defend the Rondo's, Deron William's, and Mike Connely (sp) Jr's of the NBA?? I think that could be one of the biggest questions regarding him. I mean, Rondo is average at best from 3...

There are NBA point guards who are bad shooters. Tinsley, for one, was never a good shooter. Rondo can't shoot and Brevin Knight has been in the league a long time without much of a jump shot, and he's only 5'10". Jason Kidd has finally developed a decent "set" shot

Stinson was one of my favorite and probably one of the most under-rated ISU players (from an ISU fan perspective) ever. Anybody that understands basketball realizes how much he wanted to win every game and how hard he worked to win. But, he played for a horrible coach that never helped him or his teammates get better. I would love to see Curtis get a shot in the NBA. He was clearly the best ISU player from the time that Tinsley left til the time that Brackins showed up. And he never got the recognition that he deserved...despite his love for this universtiy that he traveled 2000 miles to play for...

Totally agree Ankeny... Stinson will always be one of my favorites. I think he could be a quality NBA player in the Derek Fisher/Baron Davis mold. If he were a little more athletic he'd be in, or if he could shoot a little better he'd be in. Always will wish the best for Curt, absolutely loved watching him play.

As I agree about loving to watch Stinson play...was he not the one deemed a "basketball genius" by our old coach? (whose name will not be mentioned for copyright of direct TV or whatever service he works for now) Even Dick Vitale loved Stinson!! Pretty sure he was not underrated or undervalued as a player.

I'm talking mainly from a fan perspective. A lot of our fans always ripped Stinson throughout his entire team. One game that I'll always remember is the A&M game in '06. He had four fouls, and we had to foul somebody since we were down and there was less than 30 seconds left. He was pleading for anybody to foul, but nobody would, so he had to and fouled out. And we were down by three with the ball, and never got a shot off at the end.

People often criticized him for always demanding the ball at the end of games, but he was the only one that would step up to take those shots. He was somebody that definitely would have gained by sticking around one more year under GMac. Would love to see him make it to the NBA. I think it's really just his jump shot that is keeping him out at this point. If he could consistently knock down the three, I think he could make it...

At Kansas and in the garden for the NIT is what i always remember he was ridiculously good.

My favorite game of his was his triple double versus Colorado. It was so effortless. I remember Rahshon knocking down a three to give him his 10th assist on the game...
