My HB Conspiracy Theory

I think I've come up with the plan for next year with HB recruiting and our new non-conference game.

I think HB, McD and Coach K decided to have ISU play Duke and winner gets Barnes.

For McD- thought best shot at landing Barnes while giving program a boost.

Coach K-figures sure win and easy way to land #1 recruit with another televised game.

HB-pits #1 and #2 choices and if ISU wins=credibility to potential national championship team. If Duke wins=can tell Ames gave ISU fair shot at him.

Far fetched...I would be more inclined to believe that this game was put together due to the hype of Barnes and both teams being in contention for him. (Similar to us scheduling Auburn as a football non-conference would be) Barnes will definitely be the topic of conversation during that game...

It's two major conference teams. I don't there's much more to it than availability. Colvin playing in Illinois again might put a few butts in the stands too.

Yeah... HB is calling all the shots.... whatever. He's not that powerful and doesn't want to be.

Coach K and McD have been in the same place a lot the last year or so watching HB. I'm sure during the course of that time they've chatted quite a bit and probably figured it'd be fun to play.

I don't think it's so stupid, he calls it a theory. Like any joke, it's only funny if there is a hint of truth to it.

I'd say ISU scheduling dook is about a lot more than HB, but it's definitely a reason. If we can compete against them (and I don't expect us to win no matter what--see MSU elite 8), that will only be a positive towards showing HB he can get it done in Ames. But I'd think he's most likely to have made a decision by January of his senior year in high school.

Exposure in the Chicago area, an ESPN game ($$$) against a big time program are probably the most likely reasons for this game. It's win/win for ISU and dook definitely has more to lose playing a game like this. I'm impressed by JP and GM getting this game on the schedule.

Since HB will probably be signing early in November and the game is being played in January there seems to be a little bit of timing problem with this theory.
