Re: soo im guessing the Duke game was cooked up
Depending on how good Duke is coming in, not sure. Barnes would be great to have, but a marque win over a great Duke team may bring in more better recruits than just Barnes. Of course that would also depend on what ISU does the rest of the season. Probably Barnes over a Duke win.

Re: soo im guessing the Duke game was cooked up
I would pick the victory over Duke.
I guess a win like that would get people talking about Cyclone Basketball again...especially in the Big 12 Conference......and it would lead to a successful rest of the season...IMO.
Hard decision....but a win like that...followed by a successful year, we will get the horses to come back to Ames.

You can only pick one, even though both would be amazing. Barnes

Huh? This is right up the alley of "If we get to the title game, everything will be rosy from here on out."

Because he's not only a great talent, a legitimate top 5 recruit, but also such a bright kid, there's the legitimate chance that he would stay at a school two or three years, making him FAR more valuable than other top 5 recruits that will bolt to the league at the first chance. If you look at most of the recent national champion teams, the thing they have most in common is pro talent that didn't want to leave school quite yet.
Thus, I think Barnes is at least the best recruit since Tyler Hansbrough in 2005.

If you are ISU and you add the "emotional" reasons like home-grown kid/local star, legacy (I use the term lightly), mom's connection's to ISU, plus the opportunity cost (ISU does not get too many looks from top 25, big drop off in "back-up plan), he would be the best recruit ever...he is a pretty big deal.

Maybe that draws him in a little bit more? Just a guess.

Thus, I think Barnes is at least the best recruit since Tyler Hansbrough in 2005. I agree completely, literally he is a once in a lifetime recruit for the clones. I would say he is a top 2 player (either he or brandon knight coin toss for #1), he is a legacy, a bright young man and a class act and his mother says he is will be around 4 years (which I am not too sure of), but he is smart enough to hang around until he is a top 5 pick which i think means 2 or 3 years.

Second, the point wasn't that we would bring in better players than Barnes, but that we would bring in more better players than what we are use to. The idea is that having 4, 4-5* recruits would be better for a program than 1 top recruit (that is only an example). Look at KState a few years ago, a great player helped lead an average team to a above average season and then what. Granted, KState is still doing well, but they have yet to make a huge splash.
With all that being said, if you read my entire post you will see that I agree with most of you that Barnes would be better, this is just an aspect that hadn't been brought up.

I understand what you are trying to say, I just think it is a myth. One victory on a weeknight against a lower top-25 team, even if it is Duke, is not going to bring in "more better players". HB signing with ISU would have a much better chance to bring even more elite recruits to ISU.
K-State is a poor example of what you are attempting to say- they have had more than one great recruit. Not to mention that a victory over a fringe top-25 team would have made do difference, let alone make a huge splash.
