Thanks. Right neighborly of you.
Thank you.
Thanks Matt. And don't be the guy that gives golf tips to people who don't ask.
Good interview. Glad you shared it with us.
Great interview, thanks!!
Thanks Matt, great interview, well thought out questions followed by letting Mac explain his answers in whole without being interupted. One of you asked about JPs contract extension, instant classic answer by Mac, "some ADs put out fires and some cut wood" as he goes on to explain how happy he is to work for one that cuts wood, building facilities, raising revenue...
He truly has to have a unique perspective about his son being a D1 recruit. It will be an interestinng process for both of them. I will be curious to see if he ends up player for Coach Mac.
I like Gmac, but he would be absolutely crazy not to be a complete and total JP ***-kisser after JP in effect gave him a 9-year contract before he coached a game at the major conference level. Gmac made out like on a bandit on the deal he got from JP, hell Jiri driving the wrong car got him at least another half million dollars regardless of his success. What a deal, Gmac has gotta love his agent and JP! And Jiri's car!
Made out like a bandit? I don't think so when you add the numbers up.
GMac's market value was $1M/yr when he took the ISU job for around $700K/yr or less. He had at least one other offer at the time for $1M/yr for 6 years from KSU. $700K/yr for 9 years is about the same contract value. I don't have a problem with someone possibly questioning how his deal got extended to 9 years but he didn't make out like a bandit IMO especially when you consider he inherited a roster of 4 players and was docked 2 or 3 schollies for APR issues from the prior staffs.
I really hate having to re-hash this all the time, but.....
ISU MUST have stability right now... period! If I'm Geoffrey, I ink JP, Rhoads, Fennelly, GMac, and Jackson to as long a deals as I can.
The worst thing that has happened to ISU recently, which JP must take some blame for (although I think he HAD to do it), is all the turnover among coaches. It has killed the football and basketball programs. Let's not start getting rid of anyone for a while and see what happens. We don't have the money to be paying buyouts to a bunch of coaches we've gotten rid of.
What good does "stability" do if it's of a losing nature? Good god. I don't want to go 4-12 or 6-10 in the Big XII just for the sake of "stability."
Should Minny bball not have fired Dan Monson for the sake of "stability?" Where in the hell would they be now? Do they regret cutting him loose and hiring Tubby?
How about Oklahoma State? Should they have kept Sean Sutton longer for the sake of "stability?" Was firing him and hiring Ford a mistake?
"Stability" only counts when you're winning, or making tangible progress.
If you're losing, you're just digging a deeper ditch...
