Wes E was a recruiting flop/miss who was way of his league and he even knew it. WHAT??? He can shoot, and he can penetrate. The problem wasn't skills or lack thereof, but a lack of strength. Our staff still believes he could have been a good Big 12 player once he had been on a weights program for a few years. He is a very good shooter, and can penetrate. He's quick too. The problem w/ Wes was his 5,000,000 injuries, along with his lack of strength. He had a Big 12 player's skill set.

I'll back you up on this one Cyismydog...100% accurate other than the 5,000,000 injuries, but he was sick a couple times -
Re: Scout, ESPN, and Rivals Class of 2011 Rankings
Well that is pretty scary that the staff believes that! To the rest of the major coaches he wasn't a big 12 or major confrence player. I didn't see anything in his game to lead me to believe that he was ever going to be a major contributor.
If I am wrong, which won't be a first, and Wes does have a Big 12 skills set he still wasn't a big 12 player or he would have stayed, gained strength, and then contributed. He choose not to take the route and transfer to a lower level program, leading me to believe he wasn't a Big 12 player.

Gilstrap isn't a Big 12 player because he took a different route at a lower program inititally?

Mistake was made when he didn't redshirt...was never going to be the stud, but he definitely has value to him.

All I will say to cyismydog is this: If I'm 15 and loving basketball, I'm working my tail off to get better. You could end up playing D2 or in at a JUCO or something. You are dead set on coaching. Fine, but playing at a level higher than high school is going to help with that. Also, you'll have 40+ years to work. Make friends; have fun.
When I was 15, between friends, playing 3 sports, an instrument, and chasing girls. I had almost no time to watch other high school people play the sports I did, unless I was participating in some camp, or playing against them in AAU...

However, I certainly don't hang on his every word regarding how good individual recruits are or consider him some basketball expert. Other than a few recruiting gurus and a bunch of college coaches, nobody really is.
If any of you are truly expecting a young guy to be an amazing talent evaluator or basketball guru that is your own fault. Enjoy his posts, but realize he is not an expert talent evaluator or unbiased and all that.
As far as him being cocky or whatever, well you are supposed to be a little cocky when your 15. -

Eik didn't go through the Big XII as a freshman and sophomore so he can't be a Big XII player.
It's ok for Gilstrap to not have offered anything as an underclassman to the Big XII, but not ok for Eik to develop as an underclassmean and contribute in the future like we expect Gilstrap to this season?

Cyismydog can decide what's best for himself...I will say this: coaching is about who you know, not what you did when you were 15. I know for a fact Cyismydog as a major head start in the who he knows department.

Re: Scout, ESPN, and Rivals Class of 2011 Rankings
Gilstrap is leaving a juco to come to ISU and his considered by many experts to be one of the best JUCO players in the country.
Wes E is transferring from the Big 12 to a lower level program and was recruited by ISU and some lower level programs. I know he signed early so that may have prevented other big 12 schools from offering.
So I think they are different cases personally.

Even though he only shot 34%, he could have ended up being a pretty decent shooter (not 45% like I bet you he would never shoot ). But he would never ever have been a guy that penetrates. Wasn't quick enough
I am still waiting for Kelm to commit to Iowa State over Kansas
Or for Dykstra to be a top 100 player again
IMO cyismydog, and this is just my opinion...if you stuck to posting about players that we were looking at ISU and not trying to come off as an expert even though you have never seen them play, than myself and others wouldn't question you so often. Hearing what somebody says on a message board, facebook, myspace doesn't make anyone an expert

Re: Scout, ESPN, and Rivals Class of 2011 Rankings
Isn't this thread supposed to be about Scout, ESPN, and Rivals Class of 2011 Rankings?? Instead of bashing a poster who is offering up some info REGARDING this thread, maybe a few of you should consider doing the same??
By the way, I have PERSONALLY seen Branden Dawson play, is there any chance we could snag him?? I don't think so, but that would be nice.. He is very good.
