A broken foot just mean more time lifting weights and working that upper body! Blessing in disguise!

Just making light of the situation. IMO Buck surpassing an uninjured DG would mean this team is making progress towards The Dance, as it equates to improved (and different) pg play. Not that DG could not get ISU there either, but...

Well this will give him more time to work on his upper body.

Any basis for that opinion? I've felt the lack of playing time for freshman under Greg was due to the fact that most of them couldn't grasp what he wanted done. I would hope Greg realizes that if you want blue chip players you need to give them a fair chance to play. (Not trying to call you out. Just curious)

Colvin will get a chance...He's good, but he has somethings to learn.

Get back to me with your list of Cyclone athletes from the 80's or before who were sidelined with foot injuries. I don't recall any while it seems that there has been an incident every year or two for the past 20 years with the "improved" shoe designs.

Or don't discredit the fact of bigger, stronger athletes. The Converses you were talking about would create so many stress fractures in basketball players feet these days. The fact is, the body is not desigened to endure the amount of pounding Division I athletes put on them. You can talk about strength all day, but the fact is, people don't take time off to let things heal and inflamation to settle down.

You might want to give this a read. You don't have to be bigger or stronger to be included in the alarming foot injury statistics.

I am a statistic. Broke two bones in my foot during my Sophomore year of college basketball. I have to wear orthodics now in every pair of shoes I wear. Basketball shoes are built different than running shoes. Most people don't understand that you need to actually be fitted for running shoes to protect you against this. There are different types of shoes for pronation, sunation (sp), high arch, low arch...etc. Fitness Sports in Des Moines does a good job of fitting people with the right shoe for them. Not just a Nike, Adidas, Asics, etc.

Not good. Let's hope DG makes a full recovery and the foot doesn't nag him all season.

I know this sounds nutty, but a podiatrist actually told my girlfriend that broken feet heal the slowest because they are farthest from the brain. Her supervisor was told the same thing from an orthopedist. Has anyone heard this before? I don't see the connection.

Interesting. Communication with-in the body is probably crucial for healing, and I could imagine the increase in distance could hinder that communication. I wonder what the actual reason is.

A long way from the blood and lymph centers of the body and cmaybe? Just guessing, not a doctor.
