A bandwagon fan is those who rooted for Drake 2 years ago: people who never went to the games, never bought any merchandise, finally deciding to go because it was the cool thing to do. Maybe the better term would be fairweather fan. You said that when things get better, your attitude will too.

I'm a NCC member, I blog about the Cyclones, and I spend a majority of my downtime on this site. You got me I don't drink the Kool-Aid, and I am done making excuses. Only keeping it real... -

If you want to call me a fairweather McDermott fan, then I'm OK with that. Because when he's long gone (either leaving on his own or getting let go), I'm still a Cyclone while he'll be something else...

I guess as a ticket holder (stock holder) I wish Pat Bowlen would have checked with me before firing Mike Shanahan.....
It's Entertainment....

IMO fairweather has a connotation of only being "in" when things are good. A better term would be any of the following: unsatisfied, unhappy, concerned, pessimistic ....

Fair enough. I gave him the chance to clarify, and also just said that his statement sounded close to it to me.
I see a fairweather fan as someone who is behind the team when they're good, not behind them when they're bad.

In college athletics it's all about fundraising. If enough of the fanbase is unmotivated to give more money, a change gets made (see Dan McCarney).
For pro sports, it's different. Owners are billionaires that can invest their own capital into the product if times get hard. Companies don't drop sponsorships or luxury boxes because of a coaching change... Between that, the brand name, and NFL tv pay outs, the Broncos are going to be alright.
For ISU, if a lot of the donations were to drop off, they'd be in serious trouble.

McDermott conflicts me. I want him to do well. I really do. I'm not going to pretend the last 3 years didn't happen though because it's been rough.

He doesn't seem like the guy to make up excuse after excuse after excuse... It's the other people that do this for him
I honestly think I'm a fair guy, and I know Greg is too. I'll give him credit when he does well, and point out when he doesn't do well. Some will do the former no matter what, and others will do the latter no matter what. I will always say what I think, popular (obviously I am very unpopular) or not...
