That's why I don't understand why people are all amped about Jeremy Tyler. He was on a crap HS team, losing tons of games with him on it, and IMO he's probably not as good as people are thinking he is. He'll go to Europe (if someone even wants to sign him) and he'll fail. It's still pretty impressive, but the main reason I said it was to refute cyclonesnum1's claim that you Staten wasn't great at the high school level.

My concern is with the recruiting of middle school kids in general...which I believe we did with this kid. My concern is also with the talent pool we are recruiting from. I know that Sioux City is bigger than Rock Valley, IA and Fremont, NE but it is certainly not a large metropolitan area and it is not a basketball "hotbed".
As I have mentioned many times over, I do not follow recruiting. I really only know a little about the area that I live in because my son has played with and against those kids. How did this kid's HS team to last year? Did they play in the state championship game?

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

Maybe as a senior but not as a freshmen. Horner was a top 100 recruit and Mason City sucked when he was a freshmen. The older he got, the better they got
Also with Jeremy Tyler. It's harder to dominate high school games if you are the only good player and you are a post player. Teams can triple him and if nobody else is any good it doesn't matter. People are big on Tyler b/c of AAU ball

Like I said, I really don't follow recruiting (middle school or HS). Most of the posts I have made regarding recruiting have been more general in nature about the age at which recruiting starts now and about where we are doing our recruiting.
A lot of people on this site thought (and probably still think) I was bashing Eikmeier during his recruiting. However, the reality is that I was expressing skepticism about us targeting a recruiting "phenom" from the environment he was coming out of. I think my concerns were ultimately proven to be well-founded. As I said at the time, and I will repeat now, it was a dis-service to both him and to our program to sign him.

Re: Wesley Staten article
Now a days, I don't think you can accurately judge a recruit by their high school performances. You really have to follow how the do on the AAU circuit. That is where they are playing with kids of equal talent. If they can hold their own in AAU then they are probably a safer choice then a small town kid who is dropping 35 a night in his high school games.

First, AAU ball tends to be very offensive focused and the defense not particularly stellar. Kids are trying to impress college coaches with their offensive game much more than on the defensive end.
Second, I was told that Eikmeier was a stellar AAU player in addition to having eye-popping stats from HS.

WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!
Most (not all) people didn't have a problem with you questioning the recruiting of Wes E. The problem was the repeated...I said repeated...I said repeated...I said repeated...posts whenever he came up on here. Sometimes the message (which seems valid) gets lost in the delivery.

If it is a jamboree where the kids are playing together for the first time, I would agree. But teams like that All Iowa Attack practice and play defense. As do most other AAU teams
