AP on Harrison Barnes
This just came across the wire here at the station. It doesn't tell us anything new but thought I'd post it for all to chew on. DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) _ The mother of Ames, Iowa, basketball
star Harrison Barnes says he has narrowed his list of potential
college choices to six schools.
Shirley Barnes says her son, considered by many the top
basketball player in the Class of 2010, is considering North
Carolina, Duke, Kansas, Oklahoma, UCLA and Iowa State.
She says Barnes will make an official visit to North Carolina on
the first weekend of September and to Duke the weekend of Oct. 23.
Barnes' visits to Kansas, Oklahoma and UCLA are still being
arranged. Barnes, a senior at Ames High, won't make an official
visit to Iowa State since he lives just a mile from campus.
Shirley Barnes also says she doesn't believe her son will make a
decision before the early signing period ends in November. -
Re: AP on Harrison Barnes
What it tells us is we are in his final 6 and not his final 5 +1 (which was silly to report in the first place).

That makes 100% sense.......why make an early decision when you are the #1 player in the country. Each school will find a scholarship for you if you wait until the last moment. If ISU his home town school can make a huge leap this year and compete for a big 12 championship, then ISU becomes a contender again.
No sources, just common sense.

Wonder what happened to not taking visits during FB season
"He's not going to college to play football; he's going to college to play basketball," Shirley Barnes said. "So he doesn't need to see all the glory (of a football atmosphere in the fall). He wants to visit during basketball season, go to a basketball game, watch the coach interact with the players, that kind of stuff. So I'm not sure what he's going to do."

He is going to be a Cyclone! Oh man!

Re: AP on Harrison Barnes
I think we have a legitimate shot at HB. HB might actually want to go with us, but wants to see how we improve this season. If we lay an egg, we are done. I actually think he might head to Carolina before Duke. And never count out Kansas. But who knows. If we do well this season we might have a 50-50 shot.

Re: AP on Harrison Barnes
I'd be interested in reading Shirley's actual email, but I don't suppose that will be released. (And can I point out how silly it is to want to analyze this woman's emails....good grief. But that doesn't stop me from wishing that I was on her email list).
The email must make it seem much more like it is 6 versus 5 and the hometown team. But I do think it is not a good sign that there is even a top 6 and not just a top 5.
We all get a little testy about this whole Harrison thing, but I think it is fun to think we have a shot at getting him to Iowa State. So I think that those of us who get a little mad at some who are sure that it is not going to happen probably just want to believe we still have a shot.

Re: AP on Harrison Barnes
The article has HB listed at 6' 8"...is that true? That definitely is the tallest I have ever seen him listed at. I have seen him play a few times, and if he is 6' 8" with that skill set I can completley understand all the hype.

Probably 6'6" to 6'7"...but I've never tackled him and got out the tape measure -
Re: AP on Harrison Barnes
He'll love the electric atmosphere at the Duke football game.

This really seems like a no-brainer choice in favor of UNC. What am I missing here?
