He seemed to be an aggressive sort of player, but smart about it.

That's one thing Curtis Stinson and Will Blalock were really good at, and people seemed to take that for granted.

Re: Garrett Optimistic
Yep. Garrett needs to get to the rim. Watching what he did vs Oklahoma last year is what I would like to see.

Re: Garrett Optimistic
I hate to interrupt the days long DG discussion with some facts, but ponder this:
In 16 regular season Big12 games last year, DG attempted a whopping, ghastly, insanely, crazy......25 3PFG. Less than 2 per game. I'd argue that at least once per game (if not once per half) DG usually shot a 3 when the shot clock was running out and he had to at least get a shot up. Now, of course it would be more promising if he made more of them (he made 3), but the perception that DG was out on the court launching unadvised threes is completely false. The guy played 33mpg and shot at most 9 threes over 16 games when the shot clock wasn't almost out.
Oh, and the Oklahoma game that everyone raves about (DG went for 17 and 10)...he shot 6 threes, and made 1.
Take out the OU game (and add in the OSU tourney game) and DG shot 20 threes in 16 games. Not exactly a threat to score from outside, and absolutely incredible DG was able to penetrate at all.
And in regards to our most recent 4-star, nba draft pick PG Blalock....when was he ever able to finish in the lane?!?! Its pure myth. WB, as a soph, shot 0.405 for 2PFG. DG? 0.407. WB was able to increase his %'s to 0.44 as a jr...(still not that great)....but let's let DG have that same chance.

And it really is hard to compare the two--Blalock is 5'11 and Garrett is 6'4. My only point was that Blalock was really strong. When he got bumped by the defender, it didn't seem to bother him much. As far as the percentages from 2-point range, we really don't know if they were actually lay-ups or jumpers. I give you credit for doing your homework though!

Re: Garrett Optimistic
I never considered Will as strong. Stronger than DG though.

Re: Garrett Optimistic
Will was obviously more talented. But DG (like we said last year) will have more people to rely on that 3 point or open shot so he doesn't have to. He shouldnt have to develop into a shooter when he obviously is a poor one. We've seen him at times where he needs to be as a pointguard and going into his junior year he should have a good one.

Re: Garrett Optimistic
I'm so excited for bball to start. But as a Cyclone fan, it seems like something always happens that rips my heart out. So now I am always scared. Like an abused animal. Injuries are and always have been one of my biggest worries.
Sure enough our irreplaceable football player went out injured (ARob) and as a result we suffer that absolute heart breaker in Arrowhead stadium.
God I hope a certain irreplaceable basketball player stays healthy......
