The Big 12 coaches are certainly setting up very high expectations for Gilstrap. The poor kid will hardly be able to live up to them.

When you see him, it's not strange.

Re: Getting pumped to see Gilstrap
From the way it sounds, it's really too bad that we are going to have this guy for only one year.

He is not much of a kid. Did you see how old he is? He has more life experiences than most college kids. It should give him perspective.

Re: Getting pumped to see Gilstrap
I can't wait to see Gilstrap play either.
I can't wait until he blows up in the Big XII and we see him throw one down over Aldrich or block a shot by D. James or hustle for a loose ball, beating out J. Anderson.
There's going to be ESPN stories about this guy and his amazing journey to ISU and the Big XII.
There will be double interviews with he and Brackins talking about turning the tide of ISU basketball and how things turned for the better as soon as Gilstrap stepped on campus. How in tandem with the maturity of our guard play, Gilstrap was the missing piece of the puzzle.
Lastly, there will be the "One Shining Moment" montage during the NCAA showing the ISU B-ball team jumping up and down after pulling off an upset of a team they were thought to have no chance of beating.
This will be a great year indeed.

Coaches know when players are good and that they will require extra focus in practice vs a "just show up and run our offense approach" to a game.

Re: Getting pumped to see Gilstrap
I thought that when Kantrail Horton graduated, his contributions to Iowa State Bball would be over. Guess I was wrong. Many thanks buddy!

He further added that a lot of times a coach may have a loaded team but need that one player that pushes his team up and over the competition and he truly believes that Gilstrap is that talented of a player to have been on any team in the nation - period." the other quote that i heard he made was that Gilstrap could be the most rounded all around player he's seen in the last several years - bar none, he's NBA ready now. Theres a reason that Big 12 coaches named him newcomer of the league, they're beginning to review tape on him and prepare and they see the talent too.....This kid is a flat out baller!!!!
Now heres a scenario - far fetched definitely....but, lets dream for a while....
ISU has a really good year, makes the tourney and bounces a few teams falling short of the elite 8.....
Brackins, Gilstrap host Barnes and ultimately the three of them conspire that if they all are present that ISU's roster would be stacked...they all agree - one and done for all three!!!!
Brackins comes back.
Gilstrap petitions and receives year of eligibility.
Barnes Commits.
Couple this with the seasoned team around them and this truly could be a contender.....

Irony in all of this...If Kentucky doesn't mess with WJ and Reese.
We don't get Gilstrap...there was some luck involved.

Re: Getting pumped to see Gilstrap
"He's as good a player as you can bring in, I don't care where you're coaching," said Knight, whose team includes former Gilstrap teammate Brad Reese.
"Marquis Gilstrap is as good as any McDonald's all-American you could get."
That's some serious praise.
