Oh well, things obviously change. What would you suggest to fix it? For a Monday, and being a game that doesn't count, adding in the factor that our team is getting overlooked...seems ok, but my experience ranges from around early to mid 2000. Now if we pull off a Big 12 title, and/or go deep in the tourney I would expect things to change. Dare I also mention the recruits we may pull in to get people excited?

I have a feeling a lot of that passion will return to Hilton by mid-season.

Here is the total per game averages for 08-09. I couldn't find conference stats by team though. 30. Iowa St. 11,965 31. South Carolina 11,776
32. Oklahoma 11,490
33. Pittsburgh 11,194 34. Iowa 10,861 "I loved it dearly for the experiences, for the people. I've never seen people embrace you with love as much as they did when I was in college," he said. "They just opened up their arms. I'm proud to be a Cyclone. They gave me a chance when nobody else would." -Ellis Hobbs III -
Re: Crowd at Black Hills State game
That 10,861 figure for Iowa is complete and utter BS. Figure in the Illini game at Carver and it is much worse. I mean there had to be about 5 thousand Illini fans there last year.

Listen, I'm not bemoaning anything here.
All I am saying is that ISU is just like about 90-95% of every DI CBB school now...people show up for the "good" games or if the team is good...they don't show up for the "bad" games or if the team is struggling.
We used to be a passionate CBB school that would show up no matter what. Schools like Indiana, UNC, Duke, KU, UK...they pack them in no matter when the game is played, who the opponent is, or what their team is like. We used to be like that. Another poster put it well in a thread sometime last season...ISU MBB was an event to be seen at and not to be missed back in the JO days.
It's just different now.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

Ppl just go through the motions IF the actually go and that's usually only if tix are dirt cheap or free. It's a horrible college basketball atmosphere and I think they like to blow up the #'s of attendance to try and make up for how horrible it looks to those actually at the game or watching on TV.

Re: Crowd at Black Hills State game
There is absolutely no comparison between the gameday fervor at Hilton compared to Carver- Hawkeye. None. End of discussion.

I remember Blalock's first year at the "midnight madness" event. Blalock won the dunk contest with a between his legs one handed slam. It was crazy watching our point guard pull that off.

I know they did somethign similar in the Johnny Orr days, like mid to late 80's. They did it after home FBall games. They had a 3pt contest, dunk contest and a light scrimmage if I remember right.
The only bigger turnoff than finding out a woman smokes, is finding out she's a Husker fan.
