Re: New commit for next year
Colvin, Barnes, Gilstrap, Brackins, and Hamilton would be a straight up scary lineup.
Or would it be Phillips, Barnes, Gilstrap, Brackins, and Hamilton if Phillips could be our best guard?

Re: New commit for next year
Pomlee doesn't have a redshirt so any transfer would be down a level. To early to pass judgement.

I'd also be ridiculoulsy rich because there is a better chance I win the lottery than this ever happening.

Re: New commit for next year
Back to the original topic, this signing is not an indication of what Barnes might decide to do on Friday, correct? I know it was stated that this has been a silent committ for some time and is probably not big news to people who are within the program but the timing of it makes you wonder if HB has let the coaches know. I know you have to keep recruiting and it probably has nothing to do with HB but the timing makes you wonder.

Thanks... from descriptions of his size and game he seems like a 3 who could play the 4 in the pinch or if we went with a smaller run/gun lineup. Sorta the way Rashon Clark was, better off at the 3 but with the ability to play the 4 if needed.
Can't wait for the season to start.... anyone know if Friday's game is on FullCourt or Clonezone?

Re: New commit for next year
Now Bobby LaGesse is saying that reports of the Phillips commitment are inaccurate:
A source has confirmed to the Tribune that a Rivals.com report about Marshalltown CC guard DeMarcus Phillips committing to ISU is inaccurate

Phillips in 2010 wouldn't make much sense when we already have Garrett, Buckley, Colvin, Boozer, Lucca and Christopherson on the roster and several other guards already committed or hopefully soon to be committed (Barnes 2010, Cook 2011 and Staten 2012).

I don't think LaGesse is saying it's not going to happen eventually, just that it hasn't officially happened yet, as was reported.

We always need scorers and remember that guards win in college (generally speaking). Also, there is something to be said by taking the best player available, regardless of position--sounds like Phillips fits this mold (too good to pass on). Hope this is just verifying that he hasn't "officially" done anything and that he still signs when he can.

Well, if we get Barnes and Phillips and no one else leaves, then we will have 8 guards competing for playing time next season: Garrett, Buckley, Colvin, Christopherson, Lucca, Boozer, Barnes and Phillips. Even if you go with a 3-guard lineup, there's not enough playing time to keep all those guys happy. Maybe we will redshirt Barnes. -
Re: New commit for next year
Anybody have an update on Phillips? Would he sign today if he's going to sign?

Re: New commit for next year
I am guessing he is wait to see what Barnes says, before he comes here.
