Exactly. The point is, is that we were recruiting a kid, he went somewhere else, and now we need to focus on kids who are, and will be Cyclones. And that's a good statement to make, but there's also no need for all the HB hate going around.

Harrison is a real bright kid, and a classy kid. He is going to do well in life.

He either came up with a bad idea with how to do do this or he listening to some really, really bad advice.

Had he just had some family and friends in a classroom on Wednesday, and picked UNC, I think people would get over it a lot faster.

This was an over the top production...Of course, he can do what he wants to do...and Ames HS chose to go along with it too...but to invite the entire community, when they had to know how big this would have been for ISU...just short sighted. He may one day regret how that all played out, which has nothing to do with his ultimate decision. Hard to fault him for that. But the rest? I can see why some folks are a little sideways.

If he was a lesser recruit it'd be ok then since it wouldn't be as big of a deal for ISU?

Yep. Shouldn't do things that way in any situation. I would have felt the same way if he grew up in Norman and invited their "public" to the announcement without eliminating them first.

Yep, God forbid a 17-year old kid, even one as well-spoken and mature as HB is, ever make a mistake.

I did notice he mentioned his best buddy Seth helping him to put on the show today. I almost have to wonder if this Seth is the one who came up with the theatrics more than HB.

I agree with everything you said Jon, have some family and friends and announce this in a classroom or don't list ISU in your final 6 and do the big production thing. It was over the top.

People have a serious problem taking things too personally and too seriously. If you went to the thing as an ISU fan you had to know you only had a 1 in 6 chance of walking out of their happy right?

What details did Katz say about other coaches not being pleased with the Barnes show?

I understand that some won't like any criticism of the kid at all here. And I really think he is made of the best stuff. And of course he gets a pass for making a mistake in judgment.

That won't change the fact that a lot of people feel that today's display was a bit much, and some people will remain jaded by it for a while. I hope the kid gets everything he has dreamed about getting. I would have liked to have seen him stay in the state, but can't fault him for going to UNC. Just think the entire show could have been handled differently, and its not something I am just saying right now, have been saying this over and over all week.

Well said...... I don't blame him for going somewhere like Duke or NC, but what he did at the end played us like fools.

Some of us...or me.... should have disabled the keyboard for a couple hours until we....I....got a grip.
Now we all just need to worry about our team playing tonight, tomorrow and beyond.

Be done with him. Go Cyclones!!!

Apparently you just can't comprehend why people are upset.

When HB decided to make his announcement such a large production, it really got ISU fans excited because that is the only choice where such a big thing would be warranted and in good taste. Picking any other school would be a huge kick to the stones for the home team and its fans, and people thought there was no way HB would do that, especially with all his connections to ISU.

People thought wrong, ISU fans feel like patsies, and now people are making all sorts of excuses for HB. He had to know this would be poorly received locally, or at least somebody close to him had to know that. If not, maybe we are lucky he didn't pick ISU.

Must be some naive folks in the athletic department, have they ever lost a recruit before?

Are you seriously going to be the Harrison Barnes cheerleader in every thread? You're making yourself look like a fool. Nobody in their right mind could think how this was handled was tactful. It wasn't but keep telling everybody it was in every thread on CF.
