Question for Jon Miller or Chris Williams

Seems like all we can hope for is that Roy loses a lot of money at Prairie Meadows every time he comes to Iowa to poach our home grown talent. Its the only benefit we get out of said talent.

Tinsley and company owned Hinrich, Collison and Williams. So much so, like I said in another thread, when they finally beat us at Hilton......Drew Gooden slammed the ball at mid court, flipped everyone in Hilton off...and Roy just smiled and shrugged his shoulders. After today, I am beginning to think that maybe some of Roy has already rubbed off on Harrison.

No way this is a Mac problem. HB was apparently not going to see past Carolina blue, which is his choice.

Well forgetting Harrison Barnes, since he couldn't see past the Carolina blue, what about the next batch of recruits coming up???

You have to think, as cut throat as recruiting is, that this fact (not being able to sign this kid) won't be used over and over against us in the homes of kids we are after.

Again, add in all of the player defections, and the near already near decommit of Wes Staten and it is truly scary to think of the potential long term consequences of this decision. That makes it a Mac problem......

It is so important that we are successful this year. Also it is possibly even more important that Greg shows that he is truly committed to this new uptempo game.

That said, it seems like once about every ten years or so, a true stud prospect from Iowa comes along and every time, said true stud goes elsewhere.

LaFrentz, Heinrich, Collison, and now Barnes all turn down the home state schools to play for Roy Williams.

I realize that it's hard not to say no to the best of the best. But what does the Iowa schools have to do to keep these stud players in state, whether it be Iowa St. or Iowa?

Because the youth of today want instant gratification. In this case he wanted to go to a College that could be playing in the final 4 immediately. They want the easy road, the path of least resistance. Truth is, If HB is as good as advertised he would have made the NBA at ISU as easily as NC. Actually what he didn't understand is that he would of gotten perhaps MORE attention if he stayed home. Look at Larry Bird alla Indiana State? He was highly publisized as he took a average team and made it to the finals. HB was in a position to make as much noise but he chose to go with the instant gratification like many others his age.

I personally feel that he should of given back to the community that has shaped him into the fine person that he is. He seems to be a great kid. Problen is he is just that, a great kid. Helping build a program will give you more satisfaction than being one of many players in an already great program. That mindset however is an adult's mindset, something we all learn over time not the thoughts of a 17 year old kid no matter how great he is. There is something to be learned by living long and going to the school of hard knocks. We can't expect a person like HB to at his age to understand that many of us would of loved him to stay and help ISU become elite. He chose to go to an already elite team, one who really doesn't need him, one where he can be replaced in a moment,however one where he does receive what he yearns for like many of our youth........ Instant gratification!

Salesmanship is telling someone to "go to hell" and have them looking forward to the trip. Perhaps a few good salesman should of been the order of the day.

IMO, it's like going to play for the Yankees. If you are just one member of a completely loaded team, one that has WAY more talent than anyone else, then what are you really accomplishing by winning a title?

I was thinking this to myself after the Yankees won the World Series. What great accomplishment is it for someone like ARod to win a title playing on that team? It's like the varsity team beating the sophomore team.... big deal.

If Harrison really wanted to make a legacy for himself, if he really wanted a true challenge, if he really wanted to prove just how good he really is, he would have chosen ISU. If he were able to take ISU to the Final Four, he'd be on the cover of every sports magazine there is. But as a Tar Heel, it's no big deal to go to the Final Four... it's expected. There might be 6-7 guys on UNC's team better than Harrison is. I hope he realizes that. And I hope he understands that nobody will be impressed if he wins a championship there. Like I said, it will be expected. Anything short of a championship and people in Chapel Hill will be disappointed in you. Good luck.
