Cheng....
nice job. the day is young and you already win the dumbest thread of the day award. nothing like extracting a meaningless negative from a good positive

Re: Don't get too excited about the first win
way to look at a 20 point blowout in a negative fashion.
Nobody but HB knows for sure. You pretty much know nothing....like Knownothing would like to say.

They weren't going to be surprised by anything they saw, our guys were likely to come out flat with the announcement, and still got a nice win. Just earned a win straight-up against a team that believed they had a shot.
And a half-full Hilton started to roar last night. Those tickets that are sold are going to start being used, and that place will go crazy!!

Idaho State is not a bad basketball team by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, their starting five is probably more athletic and better than Iowa's IMO. 3 of their players were very talented and athletic guys. I was very impressed with them.
Their problem was lack of depth. ISU wore them down with all our substitutions and aggressive defense. But we would have struggled mightily the last few years at beating this Idaho State team. It was a very good win, but there were still a lot of areas of improvement that GMac can yell at them for. Way too many bad passes and turnovers for one. But it was a good win against a pretty good team IMO.

That said, let's not get carried away and enjoy ourselves. At some point this year, we'll lose a game, and we don't want to deal with being disappointed. Just expect to lose them all, and everything will be OK.
Expect to lose today, and we won't mind if we don't go to a bowl game.

I'm almost positive that last year we would've lost to them, which is something I'm looking forward to this year. I won't have to worry about losing to scrub teams.

Re: Don't get too excited about the first win
This Idaho State team would have beat the team we put on the floor for the first game last year. When you get up by 30 soon after the second half starts it is hard to maintain the defensive intensity. Idaho State was good enough to take advantage. I thought it was more of a Tom Penders effort during the last 10-12 minutes. " Let them shoot so we can get the ball back."
Did anyone else think Christopherson was the second best Cyclone on the floor? (after Brackins)

The only thing this post proves to me is that the OP is one of those people who is at his happiest when he is most miserable and he is ecstatic when he can bring others to wallow in misery with him.

Re: Don't get too excited about the first win
we finished the game (the last 5+ minutes) with Buckley, Boozer, Dorr, Pomlee, and JVB
Yeah, we had the game in hand and decided to rest everyone else.

Yeah, we had the game in hand and decided to rest everyone else. Colvin played the last 3. JVB was only playing 2 minutes at a stretch last night.
Still, it was the only lineup we had that wasn't full of scoring threats, and still scored some points.

Re: Don't get too excited about the first win
We started off slow in the game. I'd like to believe it was a let down because Barnes disappointed our players and it was a let down (of course they probably wanted him to go to NC). Then in the 2nd half we played a lineup for the last 5 minutes or so that wasn't much on scoring. I think if our main 8 players had played most of the time, we would have won by at least 30.

I would've said 40, but it's the same idea. We won convincingly, and weren't in real danger. Good win.
