09-10 team better than 99-00 team

Brackins and Fizer about the same for scoring
Hamilton, Dendy, Gilstrap about same as Paul Shirley and Stevie Johnson

Guards play still favors 99 team with Nurse, Horton, and Tinsley at point guard but Colvin, Garrett, Staiger, and Christopherson are all capable

They also won big 12 reg season title, conf. tourney title and made elite 8. Your making a judgment off the first game of the season. wow

To the OP--I am willing to compare thi steam to that one, but to say that it is better is reaching a bit. At least after one game.

Not yet. Not by a long shot. Mainly just different, more than better or worse. Nobody on this team is nearly at the level, at this point at least, as any of the 3 guards you mentioned. And Fizer was just an unstoppable force in that season. Brackins is really good, but not at that level yet, I don't believe. Plus, they have very different games. I think this team has the potential to have some of the same success as that team, but they are two very different teams....

The 99-00 team won close games...a lot of close games. If I remember right, they blew out teams also, but when the game was close (at home or on the road) they had both the athletic and mental abilities to pull out a win. That was one tough team...32-5 or something like that. In 30 some years of being a viewing Cyclone BB fan, my favorite team.

Let's just say that this could be the best ISU team SINCE that one, and leave it at that. Maybe compare the teams after the season.

Guard play wins games in college basketball. This frontcourt may in fact be better, but the guards are nowhere near Tinsley, Nurse and Horton. You win with dribble penetration and stopping dribble penetration. This team is not even in that team's ballpark in that area.
