Ames High/ Waukegan game at Hilton

You'd think the way some of you talk that Hilton is Mecca. My God, it's a basketball court with a bunch of seats around it, and ESPN and Ames High want to maximize their profit. Iowa State is getting free money for hosting it. Maybe they should just move it to the Well and Iowa State can forgo free money, free marketing, etc.

The amount of stupid in this thread is almost amazing.

They should've cancelled the Iowa game when Haluska came back to town. They shouldn't have allowed Alex Thompson to suit up for home games. Dodie Dunson, broken arm and all, shouldn't be allowed in the building. The games against Kansas when Hinrich was there should've been cancelled. He shouldn't have been allowed to play there.

Wow. This was, and still is my least favorite thing about this town. No one gives a **** about the only high school in town! You guys seriously need to let it go. Also, to the guy who said their will only be 2500, you could not be more wrong. Did you go to an Ames High game last year. I bet there wasn't a single game all season where the attendance was that low.

Let's not sweat it. Hopefully ISU gets reasonable revenue. I wouldn't be upset if the turnout was more like that at an EIU basketball game, tis true, but that is just me. I'm sure that old Skype Master B's adoring fans will relish the opportunity to see him.

I'd throw this post in with the stupid ones. The people you mentioned we wanted back in Hilton. The guys that went elsewhere we wanted a chance to razz them and beat their new team. Thompson switched to our team so he is good to go. All of the guys you listed there was some plus for us to let them in Hilton.

HB plays in Hilton and there is no plus for ISU. The best we can hope for is to make some money and get the ISU logo shown on national tv. Personally I think those don't overcome the fact that ESPN will talk about who he picked and who he didn't pick. I doubt they will be kind about why he didn't pick ISU. So it's overall a big minus for us.

In the end, Hilton Coliseum is a building with a basketball court. The only thing that separates it from Ames High is the number of seats around it, and more than likely the ease of broadcasting a game from Hilton vs. Ames High. There is nothing to hurt Iowa State by letting this happen except the poor egos of a few fans who think Harrison shouldn't be allowed to breath the air in Ames because he's going to North Carolina. Most of you are completely full of it if you would honestly say you would turn down North Carolina, Duke, UCLA, Kansas, Oklahoma, etc. to go to Iowa State. It's a beautiful thing called perspective. The number of people letting a 17 year old kid get under their skin is borderline insane.

I think it was pointed out before that a national ESPN audience won't know if it is being played at Illinois State, Indiana State or Idaho State by the logo on the floor. And I'm sure that the ESPN announcers aren't even going to mention ISU. The "free marketing" idea is a pure myth. As Barnes would say, show me the money!

The rent paid by Ames High probably wouldn't even cover the cost of turning on the lights. I say that there is no "free marketing" and no "free money" in it for ISU.

Best case scenario, we are winning, and have it mentioned on ESPN.

Next best, they discuss him not choosing ISU, but have a nice interview from HB explaining what a great place ISU is, and how much he likes Ames and Greg. The opportunity was too great to pass up.

Worst case, they discuss the decision, and the hometown reaction without all of the particulars.

Spun in a certain way, Iowa State, its basketball program, and its fans can all be made to look pretty bad in this situation. That damages recruiting for the next batch of kids (Jok for instance).

We will see what happens. HB, and all of these defenders (flunkies, and hangers on?), proclaiming his virtue in all of this, had better hope that the last scenario is not the one that plays out.
