Listening to John on the radio
[only been able to go to 1 game so far] anyway, it sounds like he has been the most impressed with Diante so far. Just his control and passing, not putting up goofy shots. Is that a accurate account of things so far?

Honestly I don't think there's a returning player who hasn't improved vastly from last year.. I've been impressed how much better all around everyone Is especially with passing and decision making

Re: Listening to John on the radio
I'm a little nervous about shooting from our point guards. Nitpicking but it would come in handy agaisnt the really good teams we will face.

At least we know our shooting guards can shoot. In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection. -
Re: Listening to John on the radio
DG has about 3 airballs so far. He's deferred almost all offense for now, which is good. I look for things to get worked up about and I have a gut feeling we'll need him to hit a couple big shots. "Missouri is free to create an enduring basketball rivalry with Auburn." -

I honestly think Ham might be the odd man out once Dendy returns. He was beaten on defense several times last night and looks slow compared to our other post players. I hope he gets it going because I like his hustle.

Re: Listening to John on the radio
I don't recall DG taking a shot outside a few feet all night.
I was most impressed by him, after Lucca obviously. The whole game, I thought he handled the ball EXTREMELY well. Never looked bothered once and at times, almost seemed to be toying with the Drake defenders.
And he looked to be dishing or driving to the basket with great balance and effectiveness. Very impressed with DG last night.

When we need someone to bang with Cole Aldrich, Ham will get some PT.
I was really impressed with JVB last night. He looked pretty good, didn't force any threes and rebounded well. He looks a lot bigger than last year too.

Hopefully he can keep it up as the competition gets better, but he hasn't looked bothered or rattled once all season.
Also, he hasn't attempted a 3-point shot yet on the season.

DG has been so, so good to start the year. He is making the extra pass. He is making smart decisions. He is playing outstanding defense. And most importantly, he has turned into an outstanding leader on this team. Just listening to him on the post game interviews and in the press conferences, he is poised, confident, and sounds like a great team player. I loved that Lucca gave him a ton of credit last night because he deserved it.
I'm a firm believer that a ton of a team's success has to do with team chemistry. For the past 5 years or so, we haven't seen that chemistry. We've had players that have tried really hard, but it wasn't like they were working together to row the boat. This year, it seems like they are all on the exact same page. The mindset of these guys seems to be extremely focused.
We only have 3 wins and we need at least 22, I think. We haven't played great compeition yet. But I like what I see.

If DG keeps up the Jason Kidd act all year I think we'll all be extremely happy with the outcome for this team.

Re: Listening to John on the radio
ive been very very impressed with DG. 23 assists to just 5 turnovers through three games. thats awesome. but even more impressive to me is that he has attempted just 10 FG's so far, made 5 of them and hasn't even attempted a 3-point shot yet. thats exactly what we need from DG. he has weapons all over the floor, so he's just wreaking havoc by driving and dishing the ball out. he's not a great offensive player, so he's using his best abilities which are penetrating and being able to find the open man. he's playing great basektball. its been really fun to watch his game mature from his freshman year to now.

Great summary. Also, I think his height must drive other teams crazy -- when he penetrates, he draws post players away very well, allowing him to dish for easy baskets. He just seems in total command on the floor this year. What a great example he's setting for the younger guys.

Exactly, we don't need DG to score with all the options we have on the court now. I would be happy with DG if he averaged 6 PPG and 8 APG. Not to mention he has one of the best assist to turnover ration in the country right now.

Re: Listening to John on the radio
The thing I have loved about DG so far is that while he has looked to get others involved, he occasionally has mixed in taking the ball to the tin. This is great in keeping the defense honest.
