Doug Gottlieb

I love this guy, and I know I'm not alone. I hated him when he played for OSU (but respected him), but as an analyst...gives props to ISU a lot. He's on espn homepage with fresh take mentioning Brackins and Wesly Johnson-I know many are fans any more but I still wish him the best as long as we don't play Syracuse.

I like Gottlieb as well. He is always pimping Iowa State.

So far this season and leading up to it, Andy Katz has really been pumping us up pretty well. Katz seems to understand the situation McDermott has been in the past years and knows how this team could be pretty special

As bad as some of these ESPN guys are (Dickie V, Steve Lavin) Gottlieb and Katz are pretty exceptional as far as non bias journalism. They seem to dig a little deeper and spend more time following all programs, not just the perennial powerhouses.

Fran Fraschilla can be put into that category as well

Fraschilla LOVES Iowa State. Every time he does a game at Hilton, he talks about how much he loves the place.

On a completely unrelated note that doesn't deserve its own thread, I am watching the Duke v. UConn game..and how ugly is Kyle Singler? What is wrong wiht that guy? Where did his eyebrows go?

I like Gottlieb. He gives his opinion and doesn't care how much he pisses people off. Usually when I listen to him it is ESPN radio so it is more than just basketball. I really don't like the guys that just go with the mainstream opinions. It's not a coincidence that ESPN radio doesn't have many of those guys on their regular programming.

Love Gottlieb's radio show as well - very insightful and I respect his views, even when I disagree with him (which isn't often). Then again, whenever Gottlieb's not around, they get the worthless tool Jason Smith to fill in for him and it seems like Gottlieb has to spend the entire next day's show undoing the damage that Smith did to it...

McDermott's boots. Gottlieb seems to be a swarmy, arrogant,
scumbag that i loathe. Francisicilla however, certainly seems to be a GENUINE, nice, great guy who always enjoys going to Hilton.

I may agree with arrogant and maybe swarmy but to call someone you don't know a scumbag is out of line. Look at most big time analysts and personalities involved with sports. A lot of them are arrogant. I think that is a quality that has helped them get to where they are at. When you are a national personality, to be successful and have credibility you have to believe in all of your opinions. If you are wishy washy, you will be limited in how far you go. You just don't get the respect. I know I respect some I disagree with that sticks to their opinion a lot more than I repspect someone who won't have a differing opinion. I compare Gottleib to Cowherd. I disagree about half the time, but they have a lot of reasonable points. I hated Cowherd for about a year at the end of the Lloyd Carr era because he constantly bashed Michigaan football, however he made very good points that were thought out and not just thrown out there. Say what you want about him, he doesn't give an opinion without any support. he always has his guns loaded.
