Re: Chasson Randle at the Iowa Game

Your right they must be terrible fans because they put family before football. That is not fair wether that is called having sinsible priorities. Most people understand that fair weather means that their fandom is dependant on the quality of the skills on the field/court.

Sorry we have to use little words for you. If you need any more help understanding "you are who we thought you were."

I love ISU, and am proud of them win or lose, the hawk trash that does't understand the differece either is an orphan or is acting like what we expect them to around most parts of the country. See most of us have degrees and have grown up and left moms back yard, so when we get a chance to see our families we have sensible priorities. Doesn't mean our hopes and fanaticism changes when our team is not performing or if we are out doing something else. It is reflective of scheduling and we are still fans when we have to be somewhere else.

We would chose to be with our families on a holiday, if the clones were 10-2 or 2-10. We have the conviction to stay with what our priorities. That thanksgiving. Now you can define die hard fans as you like, but fair weather is pretty well defined. I think it basicaly sits next to a picture of carver in the encylopedia of sports.

You didn't make the game big boy, you can call it or use any excuse in the book (Thanksgiving, your mom had a corn removed, your dad's new boyfriend was coming over........whatever) Excuses, excuses and more excuses out of you doesn't put ***** in the seats at Jack Trice. I owned our basketball attendance, learn to own your football attendance and the excuse machine can slow down once.

False. You apparently didn't go to Hilton last year.

And you apparently didn't attend a home football game in November this year.

    Or last year.

    Or the year before.

we are owning it. you just need smaller words. We acknowlege that we have fewer fans. We are all also well aware that we chose to be with familys. But that is not being fair weather. ANd that is what the discussion was about. Its called having a life and we have that life that goes on win or lose. We'd make the same decision at 10-2 or 2-10.

That IS the opposite of Fair weather. Now if the discussion was about the most or more rabbid out of touch people in the fan base then that would be relavent, we have addressed that and have no problems with that. Yes guilty as charged we have lives. We don't live vicariously through 19 olds. We have priorities. But what we don't do is leave those people that we enjoy supporting when the need us most. We don't quit on a team that clearly hasn't quit on us. We don't Laugh pee all over the foundation that we hope one day will be just that.

Your fan base has proven fickle. from Booing Freerents to your stellar showing of every basketball game for about the last decade. There is a lot to be proud of in the players on the court for Iowa right now and unfortunatly your fans are basically laughing in their faces. Thats what this is truely about and I'm sorry that we haven't used small enough words for you to get it.

"fans go bye bye when Iowa Sucks" Maybe we need to define sucks. As you're not getting it. Iowa bad no fans. Come on you had to have learned something at that dump.

Re: Chasson Randle at the Iowa Game

A major problem at Carver is that a lot of the season ticket holder's (especially those with good seats) are older folks and don't care to be out on a week night that late. Carver fills up pretty well on weekends. I was at the IA vs Mich game last year on a Saturday at noon I think and it was pretty full and it was very loud. I sat not far from Randle as he was at that game and Iowa's fans represented well.

I personally know a few season ticket holder's that are 70+ and have had season tickets for as long as they can remember and they only go to a handful of games each year. Their seats near half court sit empty for most games.

It's sad, but that's the reality of it.

Football is played on Saturday's and people travel from around the state to watch Iowa. They aren't going to do the same thing on weekdays.

Re: Chasson Randle at the Iowa Game

Here's the thing. ISU ticket sales decreased in bball over the past few down yeas. There is no denying those facts.

ISU ticket sales in football increased the years that Pollard required season tickets for the Iowa/Nebraska games. There was also TONS of hype built around the program when Chizik was hired. However, attendance this year was lower than it was last year, and last year was lower than the previous year.

There is no denying those facts.

So if Iowa fans are horrible because they averaged 60,000 of a 70,000 stadium, does that mean ISU fans are HORRID because they average 43,000 of a 55,000 seat stadium?

Come on people, when teams are bad, the bandwagoners leave. The Iowa bball team has gone through tons of turmoil, and even in the 23-9 year Iowa averaged 1,000 less than a sellout. Hilton was a ghost town last year. That is a fact.

Stop the high and mighty bull, it gets real old.

Hmmm, I wonder what the difference was between 2002 and 2005. Did Iowa win more games or lose more games in that time frame? Wait.....isn't that when they started winning 10 games a season? And it wasn't like they just jumped back up. It took three 10 win seasons to do it.

You forgot to mention that Iowa averaged 70K prior to Hayden's last year. So your little number shows that hawks go away during the losing years to the tone of 9% of the fans.

    Try to keep up here....
ISU's average DMac's last few years approx 45K
ISU's average after the coaching change and three bowlless seasons 46K+ (one year 49K) 1% increase

Iowa's average Hayden's last few years (except the final) 70K
Iowa's average after coaching change and three bowlless years- 61K (9% decrease)

If you want to argue who has more fans...Iowa
If you want to argue who has more loyal fans during tough times, you lose.

Oops (this would be the correct spelling)
    <-----My point-----

    Your head

I never compared Iowa's fans to Iowa State's fans. Even when it finishes a season 1-10 or 3-8, Iowa averages 61,000+ fans per game. That was my point; opposite to what your post implies, I never argued who has more fans and I never argued whose fans are more loyal.

Oh, and you might want to reword your sentence about having more loyal fans during down periods. Iowa, as your own post says, averaged 61,000+ when it went 1-10 and 3-8. Iowa State averaged 45,000 during its own down period. I believe your intended message was, "Iowa State has a greater percentage of loyal fans," because it's clear to me which team has a greater number of loyal fans. Here's a hint: It's not Iowa State.

Finally, Iowa did not average 70,000 during Hayden's "last few years." Moreover, Iowa did not average 61,000 from 1998-2000, which puts a dent into your claim of Iowa losing 9% of its fans during down periods. Iowa averaged 68,193 fans from 1993-1998 and 64,305 fans from 1998-2000, a decrease of about 6%.

Until I see a source on Iowa State attendance figures, your point stands. Given how you had to skew Iowa's attendance figures to help prove your point, however, I somehow doubt you were accurate in listing Iowa State's attendance numbers.

In conclusion: Chasson Randle will not come to Iowa. Peace.

Re: Chasson Randle at the Iowa Game

    Typical Iowa fan story:

Over thanksgiving break I had a friend over (he goes to Iowa). The Texas/Iowa basketball game was on. My brother (an ISU fan and alum) sent me a text that Iowa and Texas were tied at halftime. I told my friend, he didn't believe me. We went in the other room to turn it on. 10 minutes later when it was clear that Iowa wasn't going to pull off any kind of miraculous upset, he had no interest in watching. He knew 1 player on the team (Gatens) and admitted to not following the team at all. This is the same guy who attends every Iowa home football game. Of my 4 or 5 close friends from high school that go to Iowa, none of them can name the starting 5. Yet I'd be willing to bet they could all name 22 football players.

I'd like to see how Iowa fans would be showing up if they never would have had success under Fry or if ferentz would have been a failure or had to go throw rough patches like iowa state has gone through. My guess is they wouldnt basing it off how pathetic CHA has been.

Hey, at least one hawk fan here passed 3rd grade english. Now we're getting somewhere. /bigwords on

Sorry, some others needed it and still need it. He still does't get it. Now I would say that at least you answered my questions, but we never required anyone to buy a package for NEB. and That was 2 years ago with Iowa, please explain the last 2 years?

Basketball, I wouldn't be able to tell you numbers, but like I said, we won't send you to the kids table like the 12 year olds. We don't sell out the rafters that is true, but the fall from #2 in the country to where we were last year was a pretty big fall and over 8 years there could be some other factors in there as well.

See thats the difference, I can acknowlege your pt and counter and we can act like adults. No problem, so, allong those lines, we were still in the top 3 in the big XII. Doesn't really scream fair weather. Not the best, but I'm guessing that is still pretty impressive comparing apples to apples.

You are missing the logic. Trying to put down ISU somehow helps Iowa fans look better for having dozens of people show up for basketball games.
