There's a girl who is always the that's always there in the front row all decked out that probably cheers more than any guy. (one dedicated cyclone fan)
I don't buy how having to wear a t-shirt to be a part of the student section is causing people to refrain from cheering and being loud...suck it up clone fans and back your team, scream your lungs out until you can't talk, and cheer on the Cyclones!!! Cyclone Alley came and expanded while I was a student. I've seen what it's like in a limited role and I've seen what it's like when the whole student section was CA. It's much better when CA was limited. If you don't take it from me, take it from Flag Guy. Nobody can question his hardcore intentions, and he's anti-CA to the core.

Students sat behind both Baskets, some arena circle some parquet and some Balcony, you had 4 rotating seats for the season, usually one arena circle or behind the basket, one parquet, and two Balcony, and that is exactly what helped those old geesers get up and cheer, that is exactly what made the crowd one, the students all over Hilton made ( Forced large sections of the arena cheer with them, stand with them, yell ith them and that in turn got everyone up. If you think the Student section alone cannot influence the noise level and rowdyness of the crowd you are insane. Take away Cyclone Alley, bring back the Student section and still give everyone a t-shirt, including non-students. Lets do that.
Bad ISU teams still beat people when they played in Hilton that is what Hilton Magic was. It is all but gone now. Quite frankly some of the best sections I have seen at games this year are the corner balconies the 99 tickets the fans who would do anything to watch the clones. But them behind the basket and you might see some Hilton Magic. This is how it was when I was there as well (1996-2001, aka the "glory years," Big 8 champs, sweet 16, 2 Big 12 titles, Elite 8)
Even during the "boring" Floyd years Hilton was louder than it is now.

Don't get me wrong the people who try to organize it do a great job, but if it is broke....throw it away.

I don't hate everything about CA or the people that run it, but I do hate what it's done to the student section. There has been a fundamental culture change, and it isn't for the best
Won't happen but I wouldn't mind the student section going back to 1/2 CA 1/2 not or atleast a scaled back approach. Way too much leadership for something that doesn't need appointed leaders

I don't have to - went to a women's basketball game once and watched a coach chew out one of her players, saying "YOU CAN'T MAKE STUPID MISTAKES!!!" Students picked it up immedietly, "Yeah Hastings, you can't make stupid mistakes!" and didn't let up the rest of the game.
Hastings almost came into the stands after us
Also led a group of students behind the Nebraska bench in Volleyball a few years ago during a time out they called in order to sing the fight song...

Ask any of the coaches what they think about it. They will say nothing but great things!!! Oh, yea and the players love it to.

Got yelled at for that but it we all thought it was great Yeah, it was more of a statement for the "disbelievers" of our logic.
As for your anecdotal notes, those are even more reasons why students belong behind the visitors bench. I spoke more in terms of being loud during timeouts/etc to disrupt communication between coaches and players.
Of course, that is if the goal is to win, not to coddle donors.

I respect where you're coming from, but this is the equivalent of Doug McDermott posting on CF that Greg is the greatest coach in Cyclone history. Cyclone Alley has NOT done great things for ISU athletics. It's a good-old-boys(gals) club that has sucked the spontaneity out of the basketball student section. Just make it like football. Period.

Those coaches and players will always say that, and none of them were around to see the real Hilton Magic so to me there opinions are mute. I am sure your sister is hard core and I am sure that CA and the CAC are working hard, but the fact is the Students at ISU are not the basketball fans they used to be, and the other question is Why? And exactly what great things has CA done for ISU Athletics and the Alumni Association, because I live locally and have seen no media or press or e-mails form the Alumni Association or the Athletics department about these great things, What are they?

There are positives to CA, I like a lot of the ideas. The meet and greets/open practices were good, the game watches and road trips were great. The books they handed out with lyrics to little known songs and cheers were good. The props were fun, and getting everyone the same color shirt is great.
But CA is not right for everyone, and there are somethings that aren't working out they way they are implemented right now.
I'm fine with CA remaining in some form, of the vocal critcs of the current CA I'm probably also one of the more supportive of it's intent, but to say everything is fine and dandy isn't right either.

Ahh not quite the same equivalency there It seems like a lot of people that have been posting on this forum tonight are all talk and no action. If people think that CA isn't 'loud' enough, well then start yelling louder.
And I wouldn't say they've sucked up spontaneity. I mean I did get an email asking for ideas to improve game day stuff (and don't say get rid of CA here).

CA, in it's current form, is geared to the lowest common denominator, which kills the extremes. Uniformity hampers the creativity of the old student section.
The leadership council expanding from Co-chairs didn't help either. I can see where more help is needed to organize game watches and the like, but on a whole CAC grew to be faaaaaaaar too big
