Excuse me if I don't care to dance along to "Jump Around". I'm there to yell and scream when the game is rolling and try and help my team. I don't think that song does it. I don't think I lack enthusiasm. Sorry if I don't get all excited when the camera comes to me, it's just not my thing.
Cyclone Alley isn't the problem. With or without it the crowd will be the same. Sorry we don't have 20 win teams to cheer for. I've sat through some pretty mediocre seasons the last five years.
But I'll stop coming to games if all I'm doing is hurting the team and atmosphere of Hilton Magic. No see you guys don't get it you don't cheer right.
These guys though, they knew what cheering was like.
They'd cheer the hell out of you

Re: Time To End Cyclone Alley!
Anybody who thinks Hilton isn't a shattered shell of it's once former self needs to watch the 100 Years of ISU Basketball DVD. There was about a 10-year stretch where NO PLACE could top Hilton. Maybe some places as good, but none any better. Didn't matter if the team was playing U.S. International or Kansas. It was deafening when it needed to be, whether for the first 5 minutes or the entire game plus overtime. No Cyclone Alley. No stupid, structured cheers. Students interspersed with the rest of the crowd. Everybody in the house on their feet screaming their guts out. Willing the team to victory. Making the floor shake. And not all those teams were 20-game winners, either. THAT was Hilton Magic.

Re: Time To End Cyclone Alley!
Really? Dump on the students? Can we have an alumni day where they can teach us how to cheer properly?
I seem to recal from the past two years that the students were carrying the rest of the crowd cause noone else would stand up until they were leaving with 2 minutes left in the game.

Re: Time To End Cyclone Alley!
Honestly Flag Guy, do you not remember the alumni vs. student threads when you were here still in school?
Cmon man, don't make that switch

Re: Time To End Cyclone Alley!
Maybe the general public should help us out too, at least they could clap. I looked around during the last 4 minutes when we were all banging on the chairs and screaming trying to help our team hold on. And everybody just stands up, watches, and golf claps while the student section goes nuts.
I'm sure "back in the day" the general public helped out a little bit too.

Re: Time To End Cyclone Alley!
I remember back in the day when we didn't lose to Drake and UNI at Hilton. How much longer do we have to put up with this offensive "genius?"

Cmon man, don't make that switch yeah I do, but I can't hear the alumni leaving during the game over the radio, 5 minutes into the game.
Really there are bigger things wrong than the students not cheering, but I can honestly say I was confused after that first questionable call when I heard nothing, then as the game progressed I realized there was very little cheering going on at all.
While I'm a little off because of the game, I was diappointed with the crowd before we were losing
And I was always at odds with CAC - there were threads 2 years ago about Cyclone Alley as well and while I have always supported parts of it, I have felt (even before I was posting on CF) that it was not the best solution for all of the student section.
Maybe it's not the only cause of the students being quiet tonight, but there were signs it was goign that way 2 years ago

Re: Time To End Cyclone Alley!
In defense of everyone (CA & Alums) at Hilton these past 4 years under Coach Mc - there has not been a lot to cheer about. When he leaves, the volume will return, unless we bring in another mid-major coach who plays slow down hoops........

Re: Time To End Cyclone Alley!
At the end, I saw a lot of people on the sidelines in the "people who know how to cheer section" sitting with their thumbs up their ***** while I was screaming...
Granted, I hate Cyclone Alley, but the only people taking part in Cyclone Power was Cyclone Alley, none of the experienced fans took part in it.
Yes, get rid of Cyclone Alley, but also tell the experienced fans to do what they used to do in the good ole days, for old times' sake.

Cmon man, don't make that switch If I recall right Flag Guy has always been against Cyclone Alley and he is probably one of the most obnoxious and positive fans I have ever met. He never missed a game and is a real fan, not like these Cyclone Alley sheep.....let's do the roller coaster :)

There is a great deal of truth to this as well. Many of my friends and family (all alums) often tried to figure out the best way to get Hilton Magic back. Was it the crowd that gets excited first or the wins come first - and sadly wins do fix all.
And to continue to be fair some of my favorite games in Hilton were after our back-to-back Big12 seasons (god I can't even imagine winning the B12 anymore), so it did add that level of excitement.
