Re: Iowa State Clutch Players
This team is going to lose a lot of close games...nobody with the balls to make a big shot. Nobody at all.

Re: Iowa State Clutch Players
I think brak can make the clutch shot, what I was disappointed in was we weren't feeding the post really. We would get brak the ball out beyond the arc, and he would dribble in. We don't need another penetrator, we need brak and Gillstrap to set up camp down low and get it fed to him.
Until this team figures that out we are going to see crappy fade away shots and see our wins fade away with them. Dribble drive, and kick is all well and good, but the guys need to work in some real post feeding for it all to come together. This loss hurt, and Coach really needs to be less predictable.
I like mac, but I hate to say it, he's getting out coached. Adjustments are coming late, and he needs to find some one to deliver the ball to someone inside. Everyone wants to show their moves, even when their passing. Deliver the ball.

Re: Iowa State Clutch Players
This is why Mike taylor was good. He could shoot under close guarding.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

With the athletic advantage we have, we should have gone to the line a whole lot more than the (10?) times we did... That is poor game planning.

Re: Iowa State Clutch Players
This is one of the biggest reasons why we lost. Nobody is clutch at all on this team.
In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection. -

Actually, I believe we were 4-5 from the line. Brackins was 3-3 and Garrett 2-2. The fact that I remember every single free throw on the game, pretty much makes your point.
We really haven't had that "go to" guy in the clutch since Stinson. Ironically, he was there tonight...

Craig played weak tonight This is what you get with Chicago players. I say this being from Chicago. We all wanted to emulate Jordan so a big part of pickup games was driving that lane and pressing the action.
This did result in other shortcomings in my game, but going to the hoop was always there.

unfortunatly not tonight...........but......
Lucca's desperate jumping then falling sideways heave just about got it done.

This did result in other shortcomings in my game, but going to the hoop was always there. No offense, but pretty much everybody that grew up watching Jordan wanted to be like him. I see a lot of Tinsley in Colvin, and I hope to see him get to that level at ISU by the time he's a junior and senior...

When we played all those cupcakes in Nov., we still shot outside too many times. Lots of open shots, lots of made shots.
Then when we play teams who contest the the jumpers, we don't know how to attack the basket.
Just look at our FT attempts from last year - by far last in the Big 12...

Mike Taylor and Wesley could make and get their own shot. Juri at times could get to the rim. Lucca looks like he can shoot from many different directions, but he appears to disappear at the end of the game. He is under utilized by his teammates at times. CB has to pick and choose his shoooting opportunities when the defense is geared for him. Stinson was in college more a driver than a shooter. He made a lot of free throws.

Yeah, you are totally right, but there was a definite difference in style of play from the guys I knew in Chicago to the ones in Ames, and this was in Jordan's heyday. Colvin is too young probably to have the same influence, but I do think playing against Chicago school competition is different stylistically, partly because of the great athletes there. The same could be said in a different way about New York, Philly, wherever.
