What would Eustachy or Floyd do with this stable of players?
Our 2 coaches from our glory days won with incredibly tough players. It did not seem like the rosters then were bristling with talent. Now they had special players and diamonds in the rough, but most importantly they developed chemistry and played well together.
However, does the talent McD have now surpass that of the teams from these eras? Talent is one thing, but production on the floor is what matters. I really do not care for this way of thinking. The game is about putting it in the basket for your team and preventing your opponent from doing the same. It does not matter how it gets done. It's why Larry Bird was a better basketball AND athlete than many others of his era. They might have been able to run faster and/or jump higher, but with a bouncing ball and 4 other teammates, Bird would beat most.
Jacy, Dedric, Bankhead, Pratt, & Cato
Tinsley, Kantrail, Nurse, Stevie, & Fizer
Garrett, Staiger, Gilstrap, Brackins, & Hamilton
The season is long, so who knows how this bunch will be 30 days & 60 days from now. I was at the game we lost to Drake and Eustachy benched Tinsley for trying to go 1 on 1 too much, and never did I think that team had a shot to practically play for a national championship.
In the end, after typing this long post and looking back at my lists, I think talent has little to do with it. I think the 2 major differences with the 2 teams from prior eras and now is: execution and toughness (mental & physical).
There's my vent.
Go Clones (let's see some mean though, eh?)

I do not understand why more of our guards do not try to drive in and kick it off. We are soft in this area.

Both coaches would have NCAA tournament teams and would be sitting at 8-0 right. Both coaches knew how to create mental toughness in their teams.
I am listening to GM right now talking about the lack of free throws. Well, that is another thing that Floyd and LE got out of their teams. The d-mn ball went into the middle and the players drew fouls. We supposedly have an NBA player on the team and we don't get him the d-mn ball.

Eustachy would have had about 2 or 3 players leave the team by this time, and that's not much of an exaggeration.
Floyd, on the other hand.....man, I really wish he wasn't so ambitious. Had he stuck around, he could have done great, great things at Iowa State.

Win..... break up a fight.... drink....

Re: What would Eustachy or Floyd do with this stable of players?
Boozer is the only one tough enough to play for LE...

Also Mac really doesn't sound fired up or anything. Like no emotion just blah.

Well, he needs to get it together immediately . If Iowa beats us, watch the howling.
The end of the game needs to be made more cut throat and desperate.
So who is man enough to make the game winning hots for this team at this point?

Boozer is our toughest guy but he's only 6'4" and he loves to shoot too much. We just don't have any complete players - guys like Ali F. and Koch for UNI who are tough guys and good shooters. You can tell that Jacobsen has given Ali F. the greenlight to shoot those long threes at the end of the game. He knows it's only going to take one of those to get ISU back on its heals.

Garrett, Staiger, Gilstrap, Brackins, & Hamilton This year's team is just as talented but lacking too much in the strength and toughness department. We need a Kenny Pratt or Stevie Johnson. Maybe Gilstrap could be that guy if he can learn to stay out of foul trouble.
