Re: Wesley Johnson
For one, WJ wasn't a man about the situation...had his brother? or father? call Mac and tell him.
Second, I believe you have to resign letters of intent every season (I could be wrong on this)...and if I recall correctly, WJ signed that letter and just a few days later after Syracuse coach put on a clinic in DM decided to transfer.

I'm almost positive Syracuse wasn't involved right off the bat. There was a reason for the schools he couldn't transfer to. Syracuse was a fall back option.

Re: Wesley Johnson
People really need to move on and put this in the past. Grow up and let Wes live his life. He seems happy at Syracuse and seems to be a great fit for Coach Boeheim. Let's just worry about the crew that's on the current roster.

Re: Wesley Johnson
If either one of them have an ounce of respect for each other, no more comments will ever surface. Both were hurt one way or another, and I'm guessing both are ready to end this drawn out attachment that the media seems to have an interest in prolonging.
I don't like him, I don't hate him. I nothing him. Just like the other 99.9% of college basketball players that have no bearing on what the Iowa State basketball team is doing.

Re: Wesley Johnson
i agree that mcdermott should comment before wesley, as long as it is a positive comment, which im sure it would be. i kinda like syracuse and i love seeing wesley kicking some butt! i dont blame him for transferring at all. how many players make it in the nba from iowa state? seriously he was thinking about his future and syracuse is better for him. with us he would have most likely been a second round pick and now he is projected as a lottery pick and playing for a top 10 team. anyways, the hawkeyes are going down tomorrow!!!

Re: Wesley Johnson
A reasonable number of ISU players have played in the NBA.
I also think it more than a bit disingenuous to suggest that Weaselly needed to switch to a different school to get the NBA's attention. Most college teams have plenty of TV coverage nowadays and it is not like NBA folks wouldn't notice Weaselly putting up good numbers at ISU.
I don't question your right to wish him welll. Just consider that he went out of his way in the way he handled his transfer to **** on ISU.

WJ is the primary source of recognition that the ISU MBB program is getting on the national scene (ESPN and the like) right now. Oh, there have been a few brief mentions of Brackins but the name "Iowa State" is uttered on national TV in conjunction with WJ more than for any other reason.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

Personally, I find namecalling to be childish.

It's a chance to get ahead of the story before Johnson does serious damage to Mcdermott's reputation.
There's a quote on the internet about Johnson after the North Carolina game, that criticized Johnson for throwing Mcdermott under the bus, but curiously did not say what those postgame comments were.
When Johnson left, Mcdermott said he was told it was "because of our relationship." And that Mcdermott did not "agree with (johnson's) characterization."
Mcdermott also said, "I really think they're putting his career in jeopardy." Which is good for a laugh, since Boeheim now has Johnson poised to be a top 5 pick in the NBA draft.
Wesley Johnson is only going to become a bigger and bigger story as this season goes along. Let's face it. Everyone in college basketball is talking about him. He's on his way to becoming an all-american, and he's got Syracuse up to 6th in the country. They look for all the world like a final four team.
And before too long some enterprising reporter is going to get Wesley Johnson to dish the dirt on Greg Mcdermott. It sounds like he's more than ready to do it. And Mcdermott would be a lot better off to have his side of the story on the record when that happens than to have to respond to how Johnson is going to make him look. McDermott move on along time ago and so should everyone else. Let's focus our efforts on the guys who are wearing the Cardinal and Gold!

Re: Wesley Johnson
No more Wesley Johnson please!!
Thats yesterday's news.
This bball season has been disappointing enough so far without thinking about that guy.
"Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion man" -
