Craig Brackins poster: How they did it

This is from a photographer's point of view...but I think everyone will enjoy it. Dan McClanahan does some fantastic work and this was no exception!

HOW WE DID IT: Craig Brackins Poster McClanahan Studio

I think it would be neat if Fanatics filled his comments section on that blog entry with some appreciation for his Cyclone/Brackins art creation. :)

That is so awesome; great job.

The way you did the lightning really makes it look raw and athletic.

Re: Craig Brackins poster: How they did it

Ok maybe you can...but I've seen a lot people try to do it. They think they're jumping from the free throw line, but in reality they're jumping a good 4 to 5 feet past it. Even then they don't dunk it. Some of the best athletes in the world, NBA players, attempt it and don't come close.

Very cool. It's neat to show the average person how much work goes into a project like that - wrt setup, lighting, processing and editing work.

I got sidetracked. It is a pretty cool poster. They should do more creative stuff like that with the basketball and football teams.

cb cannot dunk it from the ft line... he cant even dunk it under the basket if someone is guarding him.

By 'good day' do you mean when the line is somehow 6 feet closer to the basket?

If you can do it, awesome. I agree though that it is harder than you make it sound in any event.

I have no understanding of all the work that that shot took even after reading it its over my head, looks nifty though!

Nothing to see here mods. Keep moving.

From one of the unfinished pictures in the blog post, it looks like he was pushed way farther back in the final image from where he actually jumped (you can see the paint by his shoes)

Yep, you can see his heel on the FT line in the one jump and his toe on the Big 12 "X" in the other.

Not saying he can't or didn't...just what showed in the pics.

What a great picture. My wife does photography and I am going to show where this poster. I think she can do the picture with me instead. Lets see how well photoshop works with a 30 year old that can't jump for crap.

Love the final product! It would also be very cool just to have a poster of a "cleaned -up" version of the photo with just "one" Craig hanging in the air.
