With the exception of those who are good enough to play for teams like North Carolina... does ISU stand to win most future recruiting battles for in state talent?
The lack of fan support at Eastern IA has to be killing their future recruiting. Have you read the basketball posts on HawkeyeNation? All but 2 or 3 fans have totally abandoned basketball. I'm surprised they're even getting 2,500 at games at CHA. The new coach they get after they have to fire Lick is going to have a huge up hill battle. It may be hard to find a good coach willing to take a school on with such fair-weather fans. I feel bad for Lick... no support. That said.. hope we pound the snot out of them tonight!
We have a little window here as the Hawks are really struggling. Let's just hope ISU goes 11-5 in Big 12 and GMac shuts up the critics. The Time is NOW for ISU to Put up or Shut up.
Iowa's 2010 class is ranked far higher than ISU's is, and is pretty darn athletic.
This year sucks, and if ISU wants to take over in-state recruiting, this'd be the year to do it. Next year Iowa will be much improved, with a talented class coming in on top of 5 returning starters.
Iowa's class has twice as many members right now...it better be higher ranked. Both of ISU's recruits are more athletic (not necessarily better players) than any of the 4 Hawk recruits. I like iowa's class though.
"Missouri is free to create an enduring basketball rivalry with Auburn."
Honestly, for instate recruits, I think they grow up knowing if they want to play for ISU or Iowa. We just have to hope that the better players grow up cheering for the Cardinal and Gold.
"No matter how many hours you study opponent films, there's only going to be eleven players on the other side of the line of scrimmage." - Sid Gillman
It's a simple game in which strategic beauty comes not from being surprised by some new clever trick, but from the sublime, routine brilliance of a master in his element.
If all goes to plan UNI is on the way to its 5th NCAA in 7 years. Iowa and ISU can't come close to that in the memories of kids that are in high school right now.
