Outside of bringing back Eustachy or Floyd, which I am not suggesting, who are the best candidates right now that we could go after and actually have a chance of hiring?

Paul Rhoads.

The biggest problem w/McDermott is that we can't fire him because of his ridiculously lengthy contract. Can't afford the buyout.

If I was looking around the country for good replacements, Ben Jacobsen comes up as a guy with a ton of potential, but it's hard to not think he'd be McDermott 2.0.

Do you really think Mac is going to go anywhere? The only way he isnt the coach next year is if he has enough and is ready to move on. Pollard will not fire him. If that is the case the perfect guy is out there and JP will only need to make one call and beg and plead him to come to ISU.

Really? Let's not put the cart ahead of the horses this early in the season. I hate to tell you guys but we may be stuck with Mac for awhile. Isn't he signed through 2015 or something? Would be a very expensive buyout.

I have heard from credible sources that Bill Self, himself, (pun intended) wants to come to ISU.... Sorry, I don't have a link at the moment.

There are things that can be done to get around that. Like I said it would be Mac wanted to step down if we have a new coach next year. If this season turns out a mess he needs to look at his future as well as ISU's.

I thought Mac would be here for the long haul, but I'm starting to think that next year will be his last.

I'm behind Pollard on most of the moves he's made, but the McD extension was just mindblowingly stupid. Even if he was doing ok, which he hasn't at any point in his ISU tenure, you still wait till a little closer to deadline.
