What do our bball assistants do?
What are their responsibilities? I know TJ and Daniyel are great recruiters. Ron Smith seems to coordinate lots of operational details, camps, etc. How about the rest? What do they do?

Re: What do our bball assistants do?
They probably recruit, look at film of future games and our previous games to look at what we need to practice on. Other than that, I cannot think of much more than that. Given that those two things I stated take a lot of time.

I think years ago we used to scout opponents in person, at least some of them. Do we still do that or is all the scouting just done from tape?

It's possible, almost everything is on TV or the internet now a days. Why waste the money to travel in person when you can watch on TV or the internet and re-wind.

Don't confuse hope for a plan. -

I've always been curious about what Jeff Rutter brings to the table. That's not a criticism of him, just curious what his strengths are. I've heard him on the radio a few times (mostly with Cotlar back on his AM show) and he sounds like a good guy.

Not sure what he is adding.

Can they even scout team in person anymore?
They watch tape, work on building game plans. I know Mac assigns teams to different coaches so they start a gameplan a week or so in advance.
They also are on the road a lot watching HS BB.

Re: What do our bball assistants do?
A better questions is what do we need all of the guys in the suits for??
A few games back I counted and there were 17 guys in suits/ISU gear that appeared to be either a manager or an assistant coach, and then we had 16 players. This didn't include team Dr. or Trainer or training staff. There are usually a few managers up in the camera box shooting video that I'm sure I missed.
There seems to be overkill with all of the suits on the bench.
I know some of you managers are reading this fill us in?

DJ is a great great recruiter along with TJ Otz. Very very good. Found WJ out of no where and now one of the best in the land..only if we could keep people here.

I've heard they get together and bake before team functions. jeff rutter can make excellent pastries

Re: What do our bball assistants do?
I've also wondered about the number of assistants. There is a team picture in Hilton that has Mac, the players and then 20 other people. I know this is the era of specialization and big budgets, but it seems crazy to have more staff than players.
