Is Sedrick Johnson still available?
Probably not going to happen, but I'm just wondering about the possibilities. Let's say a college football team has a player who can play both football and basketball, and the basketball team gets really shorthanded. Could the basketball coach call on that football player to fill in, on short notice?

He could but at this point his time would be better spent trying to become our best possession receiver. Marquis will leave a gaping hole there next year and he really needs to be the guy.

Re: Is Sedrick Johnson still available?
Since he is on full scholarship in football, would he be able to play another sport without it counting? Otherwise, what would keep a bad football school from telling their football coach that he has to give a recruit a football scholarship?

Re: Is Sedrick Johnson still available?
I don't know if I want a guy who hasn't played organized basketball in 2+ years jump right into Big 12 play. Nice idea, but will never happen.
The scholarship would count towards football.

Re: Is Sedrick Johnson still available?
Do we really want to chance losing a football player to an injury from playing basketball? What if he is the player next year that could make the difference between going to a bowl game or just going home? I guess my question really is, assuming that him playing basketball will get us to the big dance (but that being basketball, there is a high probability of him getting hurt during the season, possibly causing him to miss football next year), would you rather make the NCAA's or a bowl game?

I remember when Stevie Johnson's basketball eligibility ran out and he played football in the fall. Did okay too--I think he played safety. He was a great talent.

Outside Linebacker. He ended up being really good by the end of the year, in fact I think he led the team in tackles in the first insight bowl.

This is an interesting idea, even if he could just fill in defensively for a few minutes.

If I remember correctly Andy Stensrud schollie went against us in BB not FB when he played both sports. I think BB scholarships are counted first.

Re: Is Sedrick Johnson still available?
we have enough basketball players...it only takes five and we have eight on scholarship and walkons. Having less can be more. It pulls a team together so the players know THEY have to do the job.

Re: Is Sedrick Johnson still available?
We don't have enough players. We've lost Pomlee, Vanderbeeken, Boozer, and Colvin (so far) and the season is half over. Now we're playing rugby rules in the Big 12. We'll probably see 1 or 2 more injuries. We almost lost Staiger last night. Gilstrap and Boozer were hurt against Texas. Adding another body is not a bad idea. Even if SJ did have a sprain - it would not keep him out for football. Otherwise, we may need Dorr or a freshman to step up. I don't know if Dendy and Hamilton have enough stamina to increase their minutes. When the team gets tired, they really lose effectiveness - that's when they stand around on offense and we either turn it over or we shoot a low percentage shot. High energy basketball is what makes this team pretty good. If we slow things down, we will repeat the last few seasons.
