Men's BB Team - this year and next
I think by the end of the year, we could have a good basketball team. The team has by no means peaked. We have a couple of games that we should have won/could have won (UNI & Northwestern), but there are a couple of games we could have lost (NDSU - yikes!). We have a chance at a NCAA berth, which is what what we have not had in a while. The team has not over achieved, but we have 2 jucos who are playing alot, and some raw talent that is developing.
Gilstrap will continue to get better. There have been complaints about some of his inconsistent play, but this is his 1st year of D1 BB. As far as a 1st year juco, I think he has been as good as advertised. The shot selection and turnovers will improve, and he is the type of player that you want to take a bad shot once in awhile. I hope that he gets another year.
Brackins has been in a little bit of a slump. His outside game has improved, but he has not been able to get points inside the paint with consistency. The team needs to get him the ball more effectively.
I really, really like what I've seen from Justin Hamilton in the Duke, Texas, and Nebraska game. He is only a sophomore and only has been playing organized basketball for 4-5 years? He can easily be a guy who gets 13-14 points and 8-9 rebounds. He needs to add a 12-15 shot and a couple back to the basket moves (jump hook!). His game is still pretty raw, and he has alot of upside.
Dendy game will continue to improve. He gives a very, very athletic front court along with Gilstrap and Brackins. Dendy and Hamilton can be an effective combination in post along side Brackins.
The combination of Chistopher and Staiger can be a solid shooting guard combination. They are not going to create any shots of there own, but both of them are very accurate from beyond the arc. That is what we need to keep pressure off of Brackins/Gilstrap.
Garrett needs to add a more consistent outside shot to his game. He also needs to improve his FT % for close games.
Losing Boozer hurts. He has great energy off the bench.
If we get Gilstrap back next year, we will have a very experienced team.

It is going to be tough to get into the NCAA. I think we are going to need at least 6 more Big 12 wins and this will be tough.

Colorado has looked pretty good so far, I think those games are toss ups as well.

@ KSU- loss IMO, given the fact that we have zero good nonconference wins, we are going to need alot better than 7-9 in conference to get in. More like 10-6 at a minimum, or more likely 11-5. And we can't lose the first round of the B12 tourney either.

Re: Men's BB Team - this year and next
If we get Strap back for next year, I like our chances of having a good team.

Re: Men's BB Team - this year and next
We need 8 more wins in conference and 9 more likely. No way in hell we get in a 7-9 or in conference

Re: Men's BB Team - this year and next
We need to take it one game at a time...There isn't a single game we shouldn't be in.

Re: Men's BB Team - this year and next
That's weird, why did it double post?

I think part of it depends who we beat, and basically where we end up. I think the Big 12 will probably get 7 teams in this year. If we finish 8-8, I think we get in no problem.
No matter how good you are, you're going to lose one-third of your games. No matter how bad you are you're going to win one-third of your games. It's the other third that makes the difference. ~Tommy Lasorda

Re: Men's BB Team - this year and next
The only games that we have an extremely low chance of winning are at KU and at KSU. We should be in the rest of the games with a chance to win. I'm not saying we will win all of them (obviously we won't), but we should be in them.
