Gary Thompson

Does anybody on the board here know Gary Thompson? I always greatly respected his game analysis when he worked as a color commentator. He was always spot on and didn't sugar coat anything that was happening on the court. Plus, he's been very much a part of the ISU program for a lot of years (e.g. Tim Floyd hiring).

I am REALLY curious to know what he thinks about the current mens basketball situation. He'd probably never publically say anything even remotely negative because he's a class guy all the way as far as I can tell.

I'd just love to hear his "state of the union."

Saw Gary on the concourse after the Texas game. Wanted to ask him the same questions, but out of respect for his family, did not. I encourage CW to give Mr. Thompson a call and see if he would do an interview for CF. That would be very interesting.

Gary was one of the guys advising Pollard and recommended hiring GMac if I remember correctly...

Someone asked him about it on KXNO recently. He supported Mac but said there are issues at play or something like that.

I talk with Gary from time to time. He has always supported Gmac. I know if he was still doing TV, he'd be saying "oh, you can get that shot any time" concerning our ill-advised outside jumpers, and he'd wonder why we don't do more ball faking.
He's critiqued certain players (which I won't repeat here without his permission), but never anything but positive comments about Gmac.
