    Re: McDermotts future

I remember when Johnny O lost all those conf road games and a lot of them were bad blow outs. One thing that I think hurts McD is that they stay close in most of the games they lose and make frustrating turnovers and really bad freethrow efforts and still could win with a few minutes left. This really tends to jerk the fan base off and evrybody calls for the coaches head. The point guard handles the ball 3/4 of the time and I have all the respect in the world for Garrett's effort and attitude, but I think alot of the team's problems stem from the lack of a point guard that can make a shot away from the bucket, occassionally. McD cast his lot with Garrett and until he develops a shot, we will struggle. The team defense is not bad or we would not continually be in position to win games. We have three big guys that can score-Brackins, Gilstrap and Dendy, get them the ball where they can do something with it! And any coach deserves 4 or 5 years as long as they work hard, do not disrespect the fans and keep the NCAA lawyers away. I have no problem with McD getting his chance for two more years. It would be 2 or 3 years before a coaching change would produce much anyway.

Yes, I like the talent that's here, and the talent that is coming in. We're getting consistently solid recruits, and I think it's only a matter of time before everything clicks. I'm as concerned as the next guy that it hasn't happened yet, and also about the player defections, but I think he'll succeed if given the time.

I would want him back, and here is why:

    1. If we change coaches now, who exactly are we going to get? Let us be honest, we are not exactly a "hot job" with the cupboard loaded like when Orr retired.
    2. Yes, its been 4 years, you cannot ignore the adversity that the program has seen, especially this week, this loss.
    3. A coaching change is almost certain to cause another 2-4 years of rebuilding.

Look, I am not happy with McD right now. In fact, I don't think he could hold Floyd's clipboard. He can/will learn from this season. He is still a relatively young coach.

This is what I am thinking as well. I hate all the turnover we have in players coming and going. But we take another 2-3 years of steps back I think if we go looking for a new head coach.

I hate losing, but I'm still holding out hope for this season, we're 12-6 and 1-2 in conference. The last game just came on a last second ditch out by one of our better players. And that really wasn't McD's fault and was more of just like kicking him when he's already down to 8 scholarship players after injuries.

    Re: McDermotts future

2010- Ejim and phillips will be good. Railey might be solid.
2011- Elgin Cook could be spectactular, huge upside
Could also potentially get Randle and bunch of other top 150 talent
2012- Staten will be a stud, probably a 4 star, chance at Paige he will have a shot at a 5 star
2013- Maybe a shot at Jok, who might be the top player in the nation for his class.

If he can lock some of these other guys up we have shot to be really good, but he needs to nab atleast a couple of these of guys to give me faith.

Well, he went out and got better athletes... now here's the REAL challenge: getting players here who are athletic AND have a decently high basketball IQ. Tough when you don't win games though... one of the two has gotta give.

    Re: McDermotts future

DG, SC, Dendy, Brackins, Ham, Phillips, Ejim, Oliver, CC. That is our roster next year. Not all of it, but the keys. That is significantly better to me than what we have now. Brackins may go but as of right now I don't think he is drafted. Right now I think Gilstrap may be a 1st rounder. He is by far our most consistent player.

I'm not saying we are a tourney team next year but I don't think we are worse.

So we should be fine with mediocrity from here on out then while even Baylor is starting to build a good program.

So we should start over, because we need a new coach to feast on when he doesn't succeed right away?
