Post Season Smelling Salts
I was waiting for an appointment earlier today and had the chance to peruse the Athlon Sports 2009-2010 college basketball preview magazine.
There are six power/BCS conferences (ACC, Big 12, Big 10, Big East, Pac 10 and SEC). These conferences combined have 73 teams. Over the past three years (2007, 2008, and 2009) the following schools are the only ones of the 73 schools in these 6 conferences that have made zero post season appearances:
Colorado
Iowa State
Rutgers
Seton Hall
South Florida
Iowa That's right...only 6 of the 73 teams in the power/BCS conferences have failed to make a post season of any type in the past three years.
I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

Yes we know, weve been bad. Tell us something we dont know

Re: Post Season Smelling Salts
Did they also mention, to be fair, that it's not the coaches' fault?

I was a victim of a series of accidents, as are we all. -

maybe this is why people are constantly ******** on here! -
Re: Post Season Smelling Salts
It's not going to change for either major Iowa university this year either. That's what's even more sad/pathetic/depressing.

I pay pretty close attention to CBB and I was shocked that this number was so low.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

I don't understand all the animosity towards the OP. I knew we hadn't been good lately, but I had no idea that so many other teams had at least made a postseason tournament. That is a truly telling sign, and boy it makes it hard to spend much more time supporting Mac based on those facts.

What it says is that it is pretty tough to be a team in a power/BCS conference and not make some level of post season play one out of every three years...92% of our peer group has accomplished this during the last three years.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -
Re: Post Season Smelling Salts
Imagine the coincidence of you, of all people, randomly finding negative information about Iowa State basketball. The odds must be staggering. -

Anything. Seriously, anything. I know exactly what you're saying, the truth hurts...

While the OP is certainly entitled to his opinion - one that is shared by many on CF - after a while of the same old song and dance, it gets old. Took about 5 minutes to look through the OP's last 100 posts, did a back-of-the-envelope (literally, it's the only paper I had around) tabulation - so I could be off by one or two, but gimme a break, it's damn near 1 a.m., and I need to go to bed.
12 posts about ISU Basketball unrelated to McD.
6 posts about the SEC/LSU
2 posts on non-ISU related topics
The remaining 80 deal with coaching/McDermott - the majority of which (if not all) are negative
Even if I heard a new song on the radio and absolutely LOVED it, if it comprises 80 out of the next 100 songs I hear, I'm going to be tired of it. I believe the technical CF term for this is the "MontyBurns" effect - the incessant trashing of a person/thing related to ISU and the resulting animosity that ensues. Somewhat amusing that now that Monty's gone, we have an immediate heir to the throne.
To pre-empt my branding as "just a McDermott defender" - I've bitten my tongue on him so far this year. I said preseason that if we didn't make the post-season this year, I'm done with him. I'm a man of my word. If we're done when the calendar hits March 14, I join the chorus line. Until then, I'm going to continue to watch in silence (or silent horror, I'm not sure which)
