Like I said, only with a contract so biased to our side that we cannot lose. Of course the money thing could be a problem but I think he would just be happy to have a BCS job. He couldn't recruit? Acie Law was pretty good. Texas A&M had a couple pretty good teams.

You're right, we never agree. Funny how that works. However, it's nice to see that you don't just argue with me for the sake of it.

Law wasn't a Gillespie recruit. Gillespie could recruit TX, he couldn't recruit anywhere else. Besides, he cheats. Next....

Well who are you going to get? You aren't gonna get a coach with a big name right now. You want Mike Davis, that's fine, get him we will have the same things going on in 4-5 years. He was at a powerhouse, went to the final four, but don't forget they were a 7 seed, so they weren't a fantastic team all year. I will give him credit for getting there but it is not like he had powerhouse teams while he was there. Fred Hoiberg won't do it. Anyone who has respect for Mac will have trouble doing it. There aren't that many people out there.

Some of you think, for some reason, we are going to get a big name perfectly clean great guy in here. I have news for you. It isn't going to happen. If you want a big name a chance is going to have to be taken. Otherwise we take a chance on a lower level guy hoping he can make it work here. Rick Majerus would be a possibility but I doubt JP would go for it and I question whether Rick would want it. There just isn't much out there unless someone get's fired for underachieving.

3 5 stars and 5 4 stars while at Kentucky. He never left any penalties at a school he left. His first season he went 21-10 after going 7-21 the previous year. You may be wrong on a couple of things.

If we don't want Gillespie, there's nothing wrong with mid-major coaches. Floyd was one of those. So was Eustachy.
It's also worked pretty well for Illinois, Purdue, UConn, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Florida, etc.

I agree. My point is that people will want a big name or at least someone they have heard of.

I'm not going to put any names out there, but I think you find a top assistant coach from a BCS school who has been at a successful program and is ready for a head coaching job. Whatever you do, you stay away from hiring a head coach from a mid-major school, even if they have proven themselves. It seems like too many schools have made that mistake. Sometimes it works, but more often than not it doesn't.

You know what team I would like to see ours play like. Georgetown. They aren't flashy or electric. They don't blow anyone out but they are so solid that they have a chance to win every game. They lose some they shouldn't because they aren't the type of team that puts people away but they are just so sound an efficient. I don't know if they have any capable assistants but I really do like the fundamentals they play with and I like the Princeton they won. Plus whoever the assistants are have been around a coaching legend a lot.

well, it worked for us with Tim and Larry, at least for a while. Didn't Bill Self start out at two mid-majors, Oral Roberts and Tulsa. Not saying it is a common thing, but, hey, guys have to start somewhere in the food chain.

Re: Coaching search... who is out there?

Jerod Haase is an assistant with Roy at North Carolina. As for some of the other names, Mike Davis is a good recruiter but not a great game coach. Pastner is a great name but he wouldn't leave Memphis at this point especially with the type of talent he has coming in next year. The Tigers have the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation.

An up and comer in Conference USA that I think would be an interesting to look at is Donnie Jones at Marshall. He has a good thing going on over there and is a former assistant under Donavan at Florida. I will have to think harder on a few names.

I'm kind of surprised that nobody's thrown out Dana Altman. I know he's got it good over in Omaha, but you never know. Make him the right offer...

I like the Gillipsi idea, the davis idea and the hoiberg idea. What about the Dayton coach he seems to be doing really well there. Also Scott Sutton could be good, hes built a good program at Oral Roberts
