Re: Who is mired in apathy
Consider me apathetic...
I never understood how 'old' Cyclone fans were so accepting of defeat, explaining it away with comments like "we just don't have equal talent." I guess years of teams like this years is the cause of that state of mind.

Re: Who is mired in apathy
I think its the new Cyclone fans.
I will say if, and its a big if, we win on tomorrow there will be a little hope. Losing, even if it is close and by 1 point in OT, isn't a cause for hope though.

The good news is that the poll is showing less apathetic fans that non-apathetic. That should make you feel better.
It's funny, I wore a Cyclone shirt today and talked to three people that aren't that into basketball. They asked how the team was doing and I told them 12-6, two of those losses were to top ten teams, two others were by less than three points. It's funny how each of them thought that it was a good year, but all I seem to read on here is how bad things are. Nice to realize that our program isn't 6-12 or 7-12, whatever the guys to the East are.
Either way, it's been much better, but it has been worst. In fact I could swear that I saw NU leads the head-to-head series 130 something to 100. If that doesn't illustrate how bad it's been...

Re: Who is mired in apathy
It doesn't make me feel better, and no its 14 including the tournament game.
You are either a MBB fan for a very short time or a very long time, because it hasn't been worse in decades. Since before Johnny Orr.

Re: Who is mired in apathy
I will either **** and moan or cheer and celebrate...either way I'm dug in until the last horn. I have no intention of turning into one of these hawk fans that like to tell everyone that will listen how terrible our basketball team is. I have pride in my team and will always cheer. That's not to say I won't ***** and complain but that's passion...not apathy.

I don't know. 41% of the people voting on this thread claim to be apathetic.

if any of those are happening, you're apathetic.

Re: Who is mired in apathy
I voted yes. I'm defining apethetic as someone who brings no emotion to the games...right or wrong thats my definition. I still watch every game and kind of get my hopes up a little bit at the beginning of each game, but in the end I know whats coming, and I know its not going to be pretty.

I'd say since I was ten, living just South of Iowa City, when my brother came to ISU in '80.
1980-1981 9-18
1981-1982 10-17
1982-1983 13-15
1983-1984 16-13
1984-1985 21-13
1985-1986 22-11
1986-1987 13-15

2007-2008 14-18
2008-2009 15-17
2009- 12-6 so far.
12 losing seasons
16 winning seasons
and one push.
So I'm going on my 30th season as a fan and we have not been that much better than we are now. There were some AWESOME years, but for the most part they were less than this year. If we only win 4 more games as you or somebody else thinks we win, we end this year with a 16-16 record. My hope is that we win 8 more, but the chemistry has to come on. If we do that, 20-12, which there is only 8 seasons in the last 30 that are better. If that happens and we beat KU somehow, wouldn't the season seem that much better considering?
Wouldn't it be nice to be a student athlete that reads these boards and realize that success isn't that far out of reach rather than reading how our fans could care less? That's all I'm saying.

Great post! I've been following for almost exactly the same amount of time, and I agree that success is not that far away.
I cannot imagine being apathetic about my favorite team. Cannot imagine it.

I cannot imagine being apathetic about my favorite team. Cannot imagine it. I've been following since Barty Stevens junior year (I think). Good or bad, I will follow this team. Although I get tired of the negativity, I prefer it to apathy.

41% of the people on here are internet drama queens that use this similar to a facebook type site to talk about **** that has nothing to do with cyclone athletics. They are no better, and probably worse, than the average hawkeye fan who doesn't know **** about their team but "they bleed their school colors" and "is as big of a fan as there is". ********. Total ********
No way a true cyclone fan can say they don't care one way or the other when our team is 12-6, 1-2 so far. You can be mad it isn't better, or you can be hopeful that they will turn it around yet this season. Either one is fine.
But to say you don't care anymore, don't watch, go to games etc-Do real fans a favor and stop talking about our team, get rid of your cyclone clothes, and go cheer for Iowa. But that would mean you would have to stop posting on message board, trying to make internet friends, see how many posts you can get, etc.
