Winning in the Big 12 takes a very good point guard

I like Diante just as much as anyone, I think he is a good kid. But, he is just not playing well enough right now for us to beat the upper echelon teams of the Big 12. To really make some noise in the conference you need a great point guard not a decent one. Diante consistently misses layups and cannot seem to execute a pass to Brackins in the post when he has his man pinned.

I am sure DG can improve, but he is running out the season fairly fast. He plays great, then things happen. The Mizzou game ought to be a zoo.

I agree with your point...but I would also throw in disciplined basketball and constant effort as well, which we also don't have.

I agree with your point. We seem to relax as a team for about two five minute stretches every game and thoses stretches are the difference in winning or losing in the Big 12.

UPPER ECHELON TEAMS - UPPER ECHELON? How about Texas Tech? I would be ecstatic if we could handle the lower echelon with some regularity..

lol... it takes great playesr at all positions.. and starter quality guys on hte bench...

we have 2 really quality physical, strong, tough, basketball fundamentally talented players.

Yep, agree completely. Unfortunately, Buckley seems to suffer some of the same afflictions as DG. He plays well at times then does something really stupid to nullify what good he has done. I thought more PT for Buck might help but it doesn't seem to be ... yet. I still hope that this will occur and if DG doesn't show improvement I'd rather see Buck get the minutes. Colvin seems to have lost a bit of his fire since the suspension but he showed great promise before that.

Is anyone else sick of the highlight reel plays of Gilstrap, Dendy, and Brackins only to have the team blown out because of poor guard play?

Great point guards create. He's had some success in this area, but not so much today or on a consistent basis all season. The quality of talent he was going against today certainly had something to do with that. Seemed like he was waiting for things to happen rather than making them happen. On the other hand, when others on your team aren't where they're supposed to be on the floor when you're trying to run the offense, it doesn't help either.

The most telling stat of the game today was the difference in the number of shots taken from the field. Some of that is point guard play, but some of it was Ham sitting on the bench.

Completely disagree. It doesn't take great players at every single position to win basketball games but it does take an excellent point guard. Point guards drive the engine and make their teammates better.

I guess it depends how you good you would want to be.

I guess my opinion of the basketball talent (not athleticism) on this team is really low.
Lots of one dimensional players.

Point guards are the engine. I agree whole heartedly. Find another top 5 Big 12 team that Scott Christopherson would start for. Or Hamilton. Or Dendy.

Point guard is huge. But we are far behind at every other posiiton behind CB and MG.

Our other three starters now would make the type of back up players you would want on a good taem.

Winning in Division one takes great guard play. Any conference. Our guard play has been lackluster since Mickey D took over.

College basketball is all about guard play, and quite honestly our guards just aren't good enough. How many times today did DG get pushed out past 40 feet? Can't win that way, I don't care who you have as a coach or in the front court.
