Re: Unbelievable stat from McDermott Era
As fans, we are eternal optimists, this is understandable. "Wait til next year is what we say, it's what keeps us fans. But this year especially, I think a lot of us went a little overboard thinking about how good we could be. In reality, we have one really good player and then a bunch of average Joes. I think 15 years ago, this probably could have been one of ISU's best teams, but the sport has changed a lot since then. If you aren't loaded top to bottom with athleticism and ability, you are a run of the mill team. I feel the talent level at ISU has pretty much stayed consistent, there's nothing much different from this team than when say Hoiberg was here. The biggest difference, imo, is the rest of the league has just passed us by. Our wins we could count on have become struggles and our struggles that might have become upsets against elite teams at home, have become blowouts for the elite teams in Hilton.
We're still playing basketball as it was played in the 90s, where we thought it was cool if 1 or 2 of our guys went pro every couple of years. Now, if you don't have pro talent coming in and leaving consistently, you won't win consistently. I don't know, what I said was probably obvious as hell to everyone. I guess I was trying to vent without bashing. I wanted to convey that I think this is a good team, they just aren't good enough to compete top to bottom in this conference.

This is an open forum. No one was attacked here. These stats are fact. People play the "it's been said a bunch already" but even the first time these stats were noted, the person that brought 'em up got tarred-n-feathered. It's not like people are ripping on a first year staff - we're in year 4 with what is supposedly 2 future NBA players leading this team. And we're still struggling to win against anyone with a pulse. But the motto here is ignore the message, shoot the messenger.
Come On. I'm not tar and feathering anyone, I don't think I ever have. I respect that people don't like Mac and want a coaching changing. But people are beginning to sound like Monty. Even you yourself says these stats have been brought up before. The first page of posts is from people who were commenting all day yesterday about the state of ISU bball, and I was curious why are they continually posting about it. These stats are nothing but shocking. If you don't know we have an abysmal conference record then you must have had your head buried in the sand for the past 4 years. Why is everything so black and white? I said nothing about only being positive or anything like that. I just wanted to know why so many posters feel like they always have to say something bad or bring up something bad about the bball program. I think the only answer I got was Venting. Which I totally understand.

Iowa State's men's basketball season can be summed up in one picture. -

Re: Unbelievable stat from McDermott Era
If we don't make the NCAA tournament this year, and we lose Brackins and Gilstrap, how will we make the NCAA tournament next year, year 5? I look at the roster of players returning next season plus the recruits coming in, and I don't see a 'tournament' team. We need to take a serious look at the future of this basketball program. As a Cyclone fan, it's really difficult to look forward to the future of this program. -

Records of the teams we have beaten...
Chicago State 5-16
Idaho State 6-14
Drake 10-11
Miss Valley State 4-15
Tenn State 4-17 St Louis 12-6 wooo hooo!!
Iowa 8-12 Bradley 10-9 wooo hooo!!
North Dakota 3-16 Houston 10-9 wooo hooo!
North Dakota State 6-12 (yes we won by 2 at home) Nebraska 12-7 , but 0-4 in Big 12.
We have beaten 4 teams with winning records. That makes us 4-7 against teams with just winning records. Hopefully Bradley and Houston dont lose.. other wise that goes to 2-7.

McD was a stellar 2-1 vs. the MVC this year. Might be his greatest accomplishment at ISU which means we are on the right track.

Re: Unbelievable stat from McDermott Era
Coach Mac vs Coach Mac
exact same win % for career Big 12 games...
Greg Mac 16-40 .400
Dan Mac 27-68 .400
A weird stat, but I guess for some reason I always put ISU on a much higher Big 12 pedestal than the FB team.
