McD - Seeing the future
Here is an interesting scenario to ponder, could happen in different ordering:
Ben Jacobson takes a job at a major conference.
McDermott either gets fired from ISU or quits because it knows it's over,
McDermott gets hired back to UNI as head Mens BBall coach, where he will probably stay for life.
Just something to think about....

Re: McD - Seeing the future
That could definetly happen, i just dont see Jacobsen getting a better job for some reason

Re: McD - Seeing the future
Not a chance in hell McDermott quits. Just letting you know.

Re: McD - Seeing the future
Why the heck would UNI ever hire him back? He moved on and is failing in his current position. They have had better success than us the last decade and they are not going to bring a coach we canned. There is no way there fan base accepts that.

Re: McD - Seeing the future
If Jacobsen were to leave for some reason and Gmac were available for some reason, I'm almost positive UNI would be ecstatic to get him back.

Someone would have to explain how they hire back a coach who left them for greener pastures only to fail while UNI continued on without him.

Plus remember guys, his son is going there....
I still say his son could of played for ISU, but instead went to UNI...

Who else could they get? He would probably take the job for little money...

Re: McD - Seeing the future
UNI BBall > ISU BBall over the last decade. They are not going to hire a coach that failed at a lesser program.

May be true, but they still don't have the money we do.

Heck, I'd go with another asst under Jacobsen.

Doug is a nice post presence in high school, but the fact is that he's only 6'7". We've had that type of player before and generally it doesn't work out. Cory Johnson comes to mind. Too small to be a true power forward, too slow to be a 3. Unless he puts on a lot of weight, I just don't see him being able to bang down low in the big 12.

UNI isn't in a position where they have to go out and hope to get some other school's recycled coach.
McDermott will never coach at UNI again. UNI has been there and done that, and he chose to leave. At UNI, we are extremely greatful and proud of what Mac did at his time here, and is a huge huge part of where we are today. But to think that UNI would offer him the coaching job here again out of some sort of courtesy is ridiculous. UNI as a program is bigger than one man, and has proven so with our success since he left.
We have arguably been more successful since he left. Why would UNI hire a coach who chose to leave for more money in the past? Why would UNI hire a coach that has been unable to defeat UNI in 3 of 4 tries? Why would they hire a coach that has (thus far) failed at his current job?
and btw, if coach Jake were ever to leave UNI, I predict we would hire asst coach Kyle Green. He would be a great choice to continue the success that we have had.
