Gilstrap's Scouting Report on DraftExpress
Gilstrap has a scouting report on his pro potential on Draft Express. Basically says he has a chance to get drafted, very raw, has upside. If he goes pro, he looks like D-League or Europe for him.

Very accurate scouting report.

Agreed. Especially this part....
"This, of course, rests on his ability to continue hitting jump shots and playing well despite playing for the Big 12’s worst team. Similarly, he must impress at Portsmouth (should he choose to vacate his appeal for extended eligibility) and in individual workouts. At this stage in the season, there are few truly under the radar prospects who stand a shot at getting drafted, but Gilstrap is certainly worth a look from NBA personnel drafting in the second round. "

True. I hate it that we stink.
Re: Gilstrap's Scouting Report on DraftExpress
Not to hack the thread with more HB stuff, but not sure if anyone else noticed that Draft Express' 2011 Mock Draft has him going as the #1 overall pick. Seems WAY too high.

The best high school player being selected #1 after his freshman year of college seems about right to me.

I don't know about that. I think he is going to take a little longer to show what he's go than some think. I think he will be similar to a Xavier Henry.

Good comparison. Very similar builds and games. I could see both of them ending up mid-lottery picks after their first year and either go into the top 5 or remain around the mid-lottery level after their sophmore year (very much like Blake Griffin).
Re: Gilstrap's Scouting Report on DraftExpress
Exactly, you have to put into account all of the college players that aren't going to go into the draft this year.
Re: Gilstrap's Scouting Report on DraftExpress
Draft Express is full of crap...when I pointed CB out to him before he blew up, he thought he played for Iowa...dude is not too knowledgeable.
Re: Gilstrap's Scouting Report on DraftExpress
That's one aspect of Gilstrap's game I think is really hindering his and ISU's improvement. His vision.
How many times have you seen Gilstrap dish it off to someone else after he blows by his defender? I can't think of one time where he passed it once he starts driving. There's a reason why so many guys are in position to flop when Gilstrap goes to the lane, because they know he's looking to score only.

The most significant concern, however, is his lack of fundamentals on the perimeter, which does not help him guard quicker wing players. If he improved his focus, from closing out shooters more effectively to making quicker rotations, he could overcome a lot of his deficiencies on this end. For the meantime, however, he is content gambling for steals and, much like the rest of the team, lacking consistent defensive focus. Improving this part of his game will likely play a huge role in how his career ends up.
