I'd say he needs one more season.
I'd say he needs one more season.
I am with ya here. I NEVER want ISU to lose, I'm still yelling at the refs for screwing us on calls, get excited when we get closer in games...only to be sucked in again....for an epic failure.......but if it finally opens JP's eyes to this mess then I am for it....especially if it guarantees that this guy will be out of Ames for good. This guy is not B12 Caliber....never was. Time to move on....Please see this Pollard. Pull the plug.
+100 Great Post.
I think based on what we have seen continuing on in a manner of supporting GMAC and acting like this program is getting better is far more detrimental to the program then actually rooting for their demise this year so GMAC can get his walking papers. GMAC is the equivalent of cement shoes on this programs feet. We either get rid of him or this program is history.
I dont want us to lose out but i do want him gone. His time at Iowa State shows that he isnt a High level division one coach. Ofer against top 25 teams since being here and i would hate to guess what his record is against top 50 teams. The only big 12 teams he beats are Nebraska and Colorado. He loses his players and has really no control over them. This stuff doesnt happen with a good coach.
If craig and strap stay one more year, I think greg should be retained, otherwise I think we need a different direction.
I would like to see McD gone, but as long as he's the coach I'll root for the team. For me, just because I don't like the coach doesn't mean I root against the players who work their butts off playing for ISU.
I think we will actually be a little better next year, but to answer the OP's question, I think I would sacrifice losses the rest of the year to lose McD. It feels like for every year we lose, we are falling about 2 more years behind the rest of the pack in the Big 12. I look at Mizzou, who had a few terribl years, brought in Anderson who completely changed the mindset of the team and the program, and brought them back to relevance fairly quickly. Maybe this is too optimistic, but its better than expecting different results from the same coach and system.
Year 1: 15-16 (6-10)
Year 2: 14-18 (4-12)
Year 3: 15-17 (4-12)
Year 4: 13-13 (2-9)
And zero wins against ranked teams (took #6 Kansas to OT in year 1 and #12 Texas to OT in year 2). Otherwise we have not really been close. Even in Wayne Morgan's last year, we beat 2 ranked teams (#12 Iowa and #25 Colorado).
I feel we just keep going backwards. I know we've had injuries and Lucca leaving, but how much would that have really changed things? Maybe won half of these games (Tech, OU, Mizzou, and OSU) to be at 15-11 (4-7) and a potential NIT team (finish maybe 18-15, 6-10 assuming a win at the Big 12 tourney)? At some point, you need to win more games than you lose in a season to keep your job and pull an upset.
I don't want ISU to lose in anything, ever. I do realize that ISU bball needs a new direction though. So I want McD fired. Today. And if he is not gone after this season, I want JP gone. Seriously.
ISU cannot wait another year for serious rebuilding to start. That proposition will cost ISU a lot more in the long run. Make the move now.
So it doesn't really matter what happens during these last games, McD should be gone. If the only way to get rid of McD is for him to lose out, I would have to give that some thought. I might actually want ISU to lose. That is really a horrible thing for me to type, and think, but it is where I am as a Cyclone bball fan, and have pretty much been there since the NW loss.
