Re: How long
I agree with CloneAbuse. Cyclone Alley hinders Hilton Magic. The idea of Cyclone Alley was good and it used to be full of students that loved the game of basketball and enjoyed going to games. Now people just go because it's "the cool thing to do". Another thing that pisses me off about CA is that in many games this year, even if we're in it, half of CA leaves with a couple of minutes left, just like some of the older fans. Doing this takes away from our home court advantage which is HUGE late in games. Another thing that I saw today, besides numerous students just sitting there for 90% of the game, was a few of the students were listening to iPods during the game. Why show up if you're not going to pay attention?!

Re: How long
Cyclone Alley needs to die. Just do the student section like football. ******, it's not that hard. Who gives a **** about matching colored shirts when it's half empty? There were about 2.5 good years with Cyclone Alley. The first two years, Hilton was still awesome, but CA was only part of the student section. Wayne's last year was the first year it went full on CA, and we haven't looked back since.
In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection. -

I agree, if you're going because it's the thing to do and you aren't really going to get into the game, you are not going to add to any homecourt advantage.
Look around at other schools, their student sections are rabid. I laugh when I see the cut from commercial and some student is staring back at the camera looking like he's in a coma....classic rabid basketball fan.

Re: How long
If you kept the seating behind the baskets general admission student sections those would fill up an hour before game time just like footall and the atmosphere and noise level would be greatly improved.
Most people don't want to be told what to do. What shirt to wear. What headband, hard hat, goofy sunglasses, wristbands, etc. to wear that day at the game. They just want to show up and support the team.

Re: How long
If you split CA up, they may not even come to these games anymore.....
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

I am not sure, but then again, the last few years they have had some really competitive teams. If ISU were competitive and there was enough buzz going around, I'm sure people would start to line up before the doors opened. I would love to see less control over cyclone alley and let students be more creative. I would still like to have cyclone alley around to organize themes for a few games, but not all of them. An example would be the pink shirts and props for some of the big games. Of course the props would hopefully be bigger. I wold also love to see the Student Alumni Association out of it, from another post on this issue, it sounds like cyclone alley is really tied by the SAA.

I get tired of the theatrics and organized stuff, I just want to see the rabid student basketball fans going crazy at the games. I was talking with a guy I work with, in his late 50s, good booster, been going to games for decades, he admitted he doesn't get into the games as much based on the current format.

THeir teams always played aggressive whether they won or lost. That makes people come out.

Yeah, its hard for me to talk about history since I'm still young. But with the students going crazy, I think the best comparison you can make is that of the Basketball students to that with the Football students at ISU. Same culture so to say and the student section at football games is much better just because of less control. Heck, the students can even start their own cheers now at football games with no help. In basketball, they are just waiting to be told what to do, and less of reacting to what happens in the game.

Re: How long
maybe they just need to get hammered before the basketball games then! -
Re: How long
I would be at the games hammered if I didn't live all the way in west Ames Me and my room mates wanted those apartments on beach but we were too late in our process of finding an apartment and they were gone. All in all, less control => more student creativity => more students who actually care => Hilton magic.

Its not the students fault though, its the product on the floor.
I feel terrible for graduating seniors who have had to sit through 4 years of this.
