Will McDermott be fired at the end of the season?
Not whether he should or shouldn't, but do you think Jamie Pollard or the ISU Athletic Department will fire him?

Re: Will McDermott be fire at the end of the season?
Unless McDermott accepts some sort of buyout via resignation, it won't happen. Jamie Pollard got a mulligan and his name is Paul Rhoads.
The campaign starts now. November 6, 2012. -
Re: Will McDermott be fire at the end of the season?
A lot of things point to him not being retained. Pollard not saying anything, the rumor on Monday floating around, his horrific conference record in 4 years, etc.
People can dismiss the internet rumors all they want but they end up being correct more times than not when it comes to the "big" stories.

Re: Will McDermott be fire at the end of the season?
I would be very surprised if Pollard fires Greg this year.
He will however compound the problem by not getting on top narrative as to why he is being retained. Mac will go into next year in lame duck status, and all of the narrative will be that nothing was done this year because we couldn't afford a buyout of the contract that was given by the athletic director.
But at least the Wesley Johnson stories will go away.
All kidding aside, I feel bad for Greg. I don't feel sorry for him, he has made plenty of mistakes. But that contract that is an albatross for our athletic department, will end up doing some real damage to Iowa State. Greg will lose in this as well. This program is floundering, and it's all on him now. People don't care about "bad luck" they want to see success.
Who knows, though, maybe this batch of recruits will be the ones to turn it all around.

Re: Will McDermott be fire at the end of the season?
A month ago, I would have said there was less than a 5% chance. With the season getting progressively worse, JP's silence, and today's rumors, I am starting to wonder. In my mind its more like 60/40 now, or maybe even 50/50. If we beat Mizzou or KSU or pull off a good run in the conference tournament, I think he's back. If we lose out, I think JP fires him.
The rumors today might not be anything, but past experience leads me to think there is something behind them. We all laughed at the first posters saying Chizik was leaving, and we know how that turned out...

Will McDermott be fire at the end of the season? Spontaneous combustion is not unheard of, but I think it's unlikely to predict it in this specific instance. For Greg's sake, I sure hope not.

Somebody on here was making fun of the suits that he wears. I don't know, but are they made of anything extra flammable?
If they are they need to keep a fire extinguisher around the bench at all times.

Seriously, do we need yet another post on McD's future at ISU? Makes it hard to see what else people are talking about in Cyclone Nation...

Can we afford to have this program to continue at this level? nada

Re: Will McDermott be fired at the end of the season?
I was told (not something I read on a message board) this morning, there is going to be a meeting with McD and staff after the Big 12 tournament. I have been told, the meeting is not going to go well for McD. Let me reiterate, this is what I have heard, albeit first hand. I will say though, the silence of someone like KG would be lead me to believe this has legs.

Re: Will McDermott be fired at the end of the season?
He BETTER fire him. Or his *** will be gone by next year too.
-
Re: Will McDermott be fired at the end of the season?
Has JP ever fired anybody that he hired?
Some people find it difficult to fire someone that they hired, because they are then admitting that they made a mistake in the first place.
