Outside the men's room: Senior night
Here's what I've got for this week. Go ahead and lambaste me if you'd like...or at least answer the trivia question! Outside the men?s room: Senior night | Cyclone Fanatic -

I like your line of thinking. True, if waiting another year only gets us off the hook for 500k, it may not be worth it to keep going.

Re: Outside the men's room: Senior night
Nice write up Kirk!
I'm from a school with shaky bball success as well so I also feel for the players.
My problems with the coach do not extend to them.
I cant figure out why so many people on this site have trouble grasping your Dot #3. Its spot on.
You constantly hear, "we cant afford to get rid of GMac! We cant afford it!". As if, on the other hand, we can afford to become the debacle that is Hawkeye Bball.

This seems like the big issue to me. If we keep GM on, only for the reason that it seems too expensive to buy him out, what kind of long-term message is that? Recruits will know he is basically a lame duck coach. If Brackins and Gilstrap leave and we end up with another subpar season, I don't think we have "saved" any money, just ****** away the chance to be one year closer to competitive basketball.
It would be a bold move, but I hope JP is shaking the bushes for some donors to step up and ease the situation. Plus, I think both GMac and his agent know that the 3 year extension was bogus, so $1.5 million of the $2.5 million buyout is derived from crap. I think there is a lot of room for a settlement. GMac and his family will be set for life and he can continue his career at another school.
We keep going down this same path and it is going to get ugly.

We keep going down this same path and it is going to get ugly. I think any time the reason given for keeping a coach you dont want is because "we can't afford to buy him out," then the AD should automatically be fired.

Tough to hire someone with a less than desireable contract given the situation ISU was in at the time.

Also, I think the job, in and of itself was desirable in terms of attracting McDermott.

Re: Outside the men's room: Senior night
So lemme get this straight....
Is there a certain clause that in his contract says that he IS GUARANTEED 2.0 million? or can this be another Danny Mac thing where he "resigned"

Re: Outside the men's room: Senior night
It's hard to imagine that it's not guaranteed. I don't know what it could be contingent upon, other than some non-compete clause.

I'm not sure what you mean...if it's negotiated, almost anything is possible.
