DeMarcus Phillips comment on Will Clyburn
"There is a good chance that he'll be here."
That is a quote that DeMarcus Phillips just gave reporters about his good friend and teammate at Marshalltown CC, Will Clyburn.
I will have a complete story up on the duo late tonight after my radio show. I talked with Clyburn as well and I think that things look pretty good for Iowa State at this point.
Re: DeMarcus Phillips comment on Will Clyburn
Nice. If he has a decent handle, I think he starts next year.
I like the line-up of:
Colvin/DG
Phillips
Clyburn
Wilkins/Dendy
Hamilton
Plus Scotty, JVB, Booze and maybe Ejim, Raliey, Oliver, Buck and Bubu.
Re: DeMarcus Phillips comment on Will Clyburn
If Colvin starts, that's four new starters. What do you like about that? I guess fresh faces is nice, but 3 JUCO starters?

But if Colvin and Phillips start, they would be starting over returning starters, so one would assume those are positives. There clearly would be a step back at Brackins spot, and we would lose some rebounding in Gilstrap. Improving at 3/5ths of the positions, and gaining some different skills at another may be enough to offset the losses of Brackins, and to a lesser degree, Gilstrap. Also, we would be improving where it matters most, the backcourt. I should not mention this, but I think playing as a team and tougher would be likely as well.

I can pretty much guarantee that losing your two best players does not equal improvement.

I would pretty much guarantee we could equal 3-11 next year without Brackins/Gilstrap.
Would we be better with Brackins and Gilstrap? Probably, but that in no way excludes next year's team from being capable of improving.

I see what you're saying, I really do, but I don't think minor upgrades at 3 positions and major setbacks at the other two would lead to any substantial improvement. Although, that's just me.

Can get any worse...
Is he there?
Re: DeMarcus Phillips comment on Will Clyburn
