Register: Small note on McDermott's contract
Randy Peterson just updated his blog. At the bottom, he gives out a small tidbit regarding a change in Coach McDermott's contract last year. According to Peterson, McDermott took a 25 K pay cut to give to his staff. What’s up after Saturday for ISU men’s hoopers? | Des Moines Register Staff Blogs -
Re: Register: Small note on McDermott's contract
Now I know that the odds are sort of against us in the conference tourney, but that's a really small bonus for a pretty decent accomplishment.
And how dare he take a pay cut just so his assistants can make more money?

Do you mean to imply something with this info? I come up with nothing jaw dropping from this except Mac was willing to give up money to keep assistants happy.
Are you possibly implying Mac may be willing to take a pay cut in the future?

Mac is a good guy, there is no denying that...but there are alot of nice guys out there that can't coach basketball. I consider myself a nice guy...but I can't coach basketball. I wish him all the best, but we need to find someone that can win here.

Re: Register: Small note on McDermott's contract
Yeah... fantastic... he took a less then 5% pay cut when he is earning around $57,000 per win? Yikes.

He gave up money to assistants because bb camp attendance has been off, and revenue from camp usually goes to them.
Speaking of which - bb camp enrollees will be even lower this summer if Gmac stays...

When there have been multiple people coming on this message board saying that they hope the Cyclones lose every remaining game so that McDermott will get canned, I have a hard time seeing that as wishing he would succeed.
When one quarter of responders on a poll on this site say that even if this team were to catch lightning in a bottle and reach the final four he should be fired; that is not wishing him success. Heck, last I checked 20% said if he won the National Championship this year he should be canned.
(Again, I am not saying that there is any chance of this happening, but that is not what the poll asked.)
