When McDermott was hired, wasnt the bar set for great expectations
shouldnt the bar be set at a high level for the mens basketball program after ISU fired Eustachy and Morgan...
Orr made ISU basketball with NCAA tournaments
Floyd maintain what Orr left
Eustachy went to another level with championships
Morgan even had is day in the sun with an NIT and NCAA tournament victory
McDermott has yet to accomplish anyting that the 4 previos coaches had while coaching at ISU

It seems McDermott's integrity is worth at least 5 or 6 years. Too bad integrity doesn't equal wins.

McDermott has yet to accomplish anyting that the 4 previos coaches had while coaching at ISU Johnny Orr never beat a #5 ranked (or higher) conference foe on the road. For that matter, neither did Tim Floyd. Not even sure LE did that feat either.

LOL Seriously? You are going to use this now to justify GMac's record? Interesting that you have to say "conference" foe, and on the road. Helps to hide the fact that Orr beat Michigan #5 in 85-86 on a neutral site, and Purdue at #2 the next year also at a neutral site. Also, Floyd beat Kansas in 94-95 (#2) and 95-96 (#5) on neutral sites. LE by the way, beat Kansas 5 times in a row.......including on Kansas' home court in 01-02 when they were ranked 5th. Nice try though. GMac has a long, long ways to go when it comes to matching any of those guys in beating ranked teams, at home, on the road, or otherwise.
Unbelievable.

Unbelievable. Wow. Way to bring the pain. Ouch.
Somebody has followed ISU hoops closely.

Unbelievable. GREAT post, Burn. Nothing like bringing the stone cold truth to the table!

LOL...I am simply pointing out the GMac has done something others haven't.
Not defending his overall record by any means.
OP was wrong in his initial statement.
Enjoy your banter.

Unbelievable. The Purdue game was 87-88. Are you sure it was nuetral site, it's listed as West Lafayette, Indiana. I'm curious because I was looking up road wins against ranked teams and came up with 9 instead of the 8 being advertised, so you may be right.
Also the LE win over #5 KU in Lawrence was 00-01 (pry just a typo, but I'm a nitpicking a-hole )

Enjoy your banter. But you are wrong. Granted Orr did not beat a conference opponent ranked 5 or above on the road. Not even sure how many times he played a team under those conditions. But Floyd and LE did beat conference opponents on the road, or at least at a neutral site when they were ranked 5 or above. A neutral site is not technically a road game, but then it is not a home game either.
It just seems silly to me to bring up that finally, in his fourth year, GMac beat a RANKED opponent at all......no matter if it was at a neutral site, road site, or at home........and then to try and hold that up like some big accomplishment of his compared to the other coaches. Seems to me like really stretching things.
If you want to compare GMac to those other coaches.......try these facts....
In 13 years, Orr was 23-67 against top 25 opponents. He beat his first top 25 opponent in year two. He beat at least one ranked opponent in 10 of his 13 years at ISU.
Floyd's record against top 25 teams was 7-20. He beat the first ranked opponent he faced (Kansas). He beat at least one ranked opponent in 3 out of 4 years.
LE went 12-21 against ranked teams. His second year, he was 7-3 against the top 25. He beat at least one ranked opponent in 3 out of 5 years.
GMac beat no ranked opponents in his first 3 years. His teams had never beaten a team they were not supposed to beat until this last Saturday, a string of 125 games. His record against top 25 teams is now 1-19.
Anyone who tries to portray any aspect of GMac's record as a positive thing compared to those other 3 coaches just looks foolish.

Truer words were never spoken...four losing seasons in a row for one. Zero home wins v. ranked opponents for another (0-9 I believe). No post season appearances for another. Yep he is doing a lot that the others never did.
I hope you are enjoying the dope-slapping you are receiving on this thread.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.
