ESPN says McDermott has two more years
On ESPN insider's rumor mill yesterday, they said that McD will get two years more to prove his worth before a feasible buyout could be reached with the school. McDermott safe at Iowa State? Greg McDermott has had a rough ride at Iowa State. A beneficiary of the famous "Hilton Magic" on his home court, as well as the services of superstar forward Craig Brackins, McDermott has made little headway in the loaded Big 12. But he's not going anywhere. Not yet, at least. "Despite a disappointing season, Iowa State basketball coach Greg McDermott is receiving a vote of confidence from athletic director Jamie Pollard," according to the Associated Press. "Pollard and McDermott held a news conference Monday where they discussed the Cyclones' frustrating season and the program's future. The athletic director says McDermott is part of that future. McDermott has five years left on his contract." Aye, there's the rub. No matter how much ISU might want to go a different direction, can the school afford to buy McDermott out? Five years' worth of salary is a lot to swallow in difficult financial times. If we had to guess, we'd say McDermott probably has two more years to try to improve his team's fortunes, unless ISU management can negotiate a reasonable buyout. -

pretty much the same thing we've been saying on this board. I'll be back next year - cheering just as hard and hoping for the tide to finally turn.

Re: ESPN says McDermott has two more years
id guess as much..1 year more doesnt make much sense. not a big difference. two would take what 1 mil off the board... im okay with 2 more. hope the wins come or we could be looking at at another 4-5 year absence.

The nonconference will be sufferable, the conference season will be painful. It is the recent state of the bball program in Ames.

Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

I'll be there too, but without the rose colored glasses I wore coming into this season.

I found myself saying(at the end of the year) that I was done watching the games cause I was getting so frustrated. But every game that has been on TV, I have watched. Guess I can''t stay away, I just want to see this team do well. I hope these guys take it to another level next year and make it to the tournament. Will also be great to see McD do well after all that has happened to him during tenure here at Iowa State! GO CYCLONES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Should help recruiting knowing that Mac will be around for quite a while longer.

McDermott will probably have to carry a notarized message from JP in his pocket to every recruiting visit from here on out, stating that he gives his scouts oath that Mac will be the coach here for the next few seasons.

Exactly right. Let's face it, next year is going to be a "rebuilding" year again with Craig and Marquis gone. If you're going to give him another year, you have to give him the second. Unless, next year is worst than this year.

They also said we were looking at Billie Gillespie two short weeks ago.

isuaggie- I'm going to go with Paul Shaffer, even if he can't sing like Elton John. Can't beat his sense of humor.
