This team played hard at the end of the season and was in a lot of games. DG made a huge leap from the start of Big 12 play to the end.

I guess I being postive is better than being pissy about next season all summer. When we have no idea what will happen.
    I recommend the following steps:

    1. Extend both of your arms, palms facing up.

    2. Wish in one hand.

    3. **** in the other.

    4. Contact me next March to let me know which hand filled up fastest.

I guess my optimism for next season started to slip when I heard the slogan for 2010/2011 is "One Step Closer to the Buyout"

Not as much as looking back at the glory days of Johnny Orr and ******** about how you wish it could be like that again. We have the team we have. There is no reason to not see some hope.

Re: Why not be optomistic about next season

I'll always have a little hope, but I'm reminded about the definition of insanity. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. We have the same coach coming back who's done nothing but give us losing seasons and post season boredom, even though this year's team had some talent. How can I be optimistic about next year losing 2 very talented players and replacing them with freshmen and/or first year players, plus the same guy coaching them that has done nothing in 4 years. It's called being realistic.

GoCubsGo- We lost 9 of our last 11 big 12 games. Again that is only progress in the make believe world of the GMac worshipers.

Has anyone else ever wondered if num1 was at the LSU-UNI game a few years back, when Mac and the Panthers walked out of Baton Rouge with a win, and still holds a grudge?

Almost makes you wonder what he's ****** at more - ISU's season, or LSU's season (11-19, 2-14). Probably is the reason why he hasn't been parroting about just how great LSU and their coach is lately...

Good point. Loser schools go 2-14 in conference play. Pathetic coaching performance.

On a secondary note, it tells me that ISU is not fundamentally sound in several areas. When you combine these things, it leads to too many easy points for the opposition. A team can't give up easy points and expect to win in the Big 12. Those sort of deficiencies lead to lots of close games (along with a few blow outs), and lots of losses.

In order to have optimism for next year, one would look for things that will lead to a improvements in the areas of athleticism, physical play, and fundamentals. What are those things going to be? Boozer will be back...that helps. But what else?

Are some athletic JUCO's coming in?

Are the players going to do something different over the summer such that they will not be pushed around in the Big 12 next year?

What is going to change so that ISU gets more of those "easy" points (paint points and second chance put-back points), and stops giving them up to other teams?

Is the team going to practice fundamental things like the 3-2 fast break, so that they end up with something better than a long range pull up jump shot?

What is going to change such that year 5 is going to be different from year 1-4? These are serious questions, and if you are optimistic about next year, I'm interested to hear how you see improvements in these areas. Or if you don't think there will be improvements in these areas, how do you see ISU winning more games?
ISU must lead the country in # of missed shots inside of 5 feet. I've never seen a team that could get to the rack so often and yet come away with nothing. There just aren't any guys on this team that can finish with any sort of consistency (6 points on 10 offensive boards pretty much sums it up last night).

I don't think we were missing much for athleticism, guys like Brackins, Gilstrap, Dendy were plenty athletic, but they had no physicality to their games. They are terrible help defenders, and get pushed all over the court when rebounding. Even when they have good position on rebounds, they consistently get outworked for the ball. And 2 of these guys are considered NBA prospects!

Now, I don't necessarily believe these are coaching problems. I refuse to believe that McDermott doesn't drill these guys day in and day out on these issues. However, you can practice something 'til you're blue in the face, but if the players still won't/can't/don't execute it, then what can the coaches do?

Can anyone name the two coaches?

(Hint: this is why I still have faith in the program)
This gets so old. Try looking at the teams that the 2 coaches played in their first four years too.

But, I will play........one of the two improved the number of wins each year in his first four years, the other did not. One had a winning record in his 4th season, the other did not. Also, one of the coaches went to a national post-season tourney in his 4th season.......the other did not. It should be noted that the year the one coach went to the post-season tourney, it was equivalent to making the NCAA today because that year the NCAA only took 32 teams. Also, one of the two had basically complete support of the fan base. No one wanted to see him go anywhere. The other......??????

In his fifth year, one coach took his team to the NCAA tourney. Does anyone really believe the other coach is going to do that in his 5th year?

Please.....stop trying to compare GMac's record to what Orr did his first 4 years. If you were a fan at the time of Orr, you know how foolish it makes you look. Orr transformed the program. He brought an excitement to ISU basketball that had not been seen since the 50's. To compare Orr's 1st 4 years to somehow vindicate GMac is asinine at best. Please stop!

I'd rather be a happy fool. At least if I'm optimistic, I can enjoy the lead up to the season.

    I think we'll be okay.
